Job Description:



The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Florida invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month, renewable, non-tenure-accruing faculty position in instrument engineering and support. We invite applicants with experience in maintaining, repairing, troubleshooting, and developing analytical instruments.

The successful candidate will work with faculty to ensure instrumentation throughout the department is in optimal working condition, which will include scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting of hardware, software, and computer problems, electronic and mechanical repairs, installing and testing of detectors and ion sources, coordinating with manufacturers for site or remote service visits, and related activities. The position will also involve instrument development in collaboration with faculty depending on the applicant’s interests and qualifications.

The Department of Geological Sciences hosts shared and individual investigator research labs with instruments ranging from: multi-collector-ICP-mass spectrometers, light stable isotope mass spectrometers, noble gas mass spectrometers, cryogenic magnetometers, UV and IR laser-ablation sampling systems, scanning electron microscope, GC and UHPLC mass spectrometers (single and triple-quad), gas and liquid chromographs, X-Ray diffractometer, deployable water sampling devices, high-performance computing Linux workstations and more ( http://geology.ufl.edu/research-and-facilities/facilities/ ). The facilities in the Department operate as open labs and all of the above instruments are managed by highly qualified researchers.

The successful candidate will be hired as an Associate Scientist or Scientist, which are faculty position titles at the University of Florida.

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes a full benefits package.



Minimum Requirements:



B.S. degree with relevant experience or a graduate (M.S. or Ph.D.) in engineering, geochemistry, chemistry, geophysics, physics, or a related field.



Preferred Qualifications:



M.S. or Ph.D. in engineering, geochemistry, chemistry, geophysics, physics, or a related field.
