Salary and Terms: Full time position. Salary placement is based on an evaluation of education and experience.  (MnSCU Administrator Range 7).                                    

Appointment Date: July 1, 2022 or date to be negotiated.

Position Description:            

The Executive Director for Enrollment Management will lead the university’s efforts to recruit, admit, enroll, support, and retain both domestic and international students. The Executive Director provides dynamic, strategic leadership, management, and supervision for the effective operation and management of the following areas: Admission, Financial aid, International Student Services, Registration, and Upward Bound. Reporting directly to the President, the Executive Director advises him on all enrollment matters, particularly budget, programs, and policy development, and will serve as a cabinet member.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of an aggressive and comprehensive strategic enrollment management plan - a University-wide, systematic, comprehensive, data-driven, research-based plan designed to locate, attract, and retain successful SMSU students. The Executive Director will work closely with the President, Provost and other campus leadership to develop and implement enrollment strategies driven by institutional priorities and provide leadership in fulfilling the University's recruitment, retention, and diversity goals.
  • Develop short- and long-term enrollment management plans, establish objectives and develop strategies in support of those plans, facilitate implementation of enrollment management strategies, and monitor progress toward enrollment management goals. The position requires a commitment to collaboration and shared governance and the ability to facilitate institutional change within a collective bargaining environment.
  • Collaborate closely with the Office of Communications and Marketing and other professionals on an integrated communications strategy that supports the University’s strategic planning and includes marketing efforts designed to attract prospective students and retain current students, including within the College Now program. This position will enhance strategic thinking and execution of strategic decisions.
  • Oversee assessment and program evaluation efforts for all departments within Enrollment Management ensuring that the short and long term plans are consistent with the University's planning efforts and meet the needs of students.
  • Responsible for the general administration, supervision, operations, and program development of admission, financial aid, international student services, upward bound, and registration functions. As part of the overall management of the various units, the Executive Director will provide direction in hiring and retention practices, performance management, review of professional development plans, work area plans, and progress reports in accordance with Minnesota State policies, University policies and negotiated contract provisions. Will ensure effective communications, dissemination of information, and pro-active program development within the offices. Oversee the development and implementation of departmental inclusion and diversity objectives.
  • Oversee the management of the Enrollment. Develop budget practices and procedures that allow the division to meet its administrative obligations and maintain a balanced budget. Review budgets with the Provost as necessary.
  • Serve on all-University Committees related to Enrollment and work closely with others across the University who are directly involved in efforts to improve the quality of student life and learning and foster student success and satisfaction.
  • Develop, recommend, administer, implement and evaluate as needed, university policies, procedures, and practices for institutional effectiveness and compliance with federal, state, and system regulations, directives, and guidelines.
  • Provide leadership in the implementation and operations of major enrollment software updates or changes.

Minimum Qualifications:            

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in higher education administration, student development, or related area. Doctorate
  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher
  • Experience in enrollment management (recruitment and retention) required.
  • Experience with contemporary recruitment, financial aid, advising, and retention/student success practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment and proven strategies for fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion; demonstrated commitment and proven strategies teaching and working with persons from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must be analytical, data-informed and results-oriented.
