Position Summary:

The Department of Engineering Management, Systems and Technology at the University of Dayton invites you to apply for a Faculty of Practice position specializing in Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology to begin on August 16, 2022.

The Department of Engineering Management, Systems and Technology offers engineering practice-based undergraduate and graduate programs using experiential learning and a broad multidisciplinary curriculum. The Department offers bachelor’s degrees in Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology and master’s degrees in Engineering Management and Management Science. Our students value our hands-on learning/teaching approach, and they become active learners with entrepreneurial mindsets. We are seeking candidates who are excited to bring their technical and industry experience to help educate the next wave of engineering technology students and prepare them to enter the workplace ready to make connections and create innovative solutions to current and emerging problems.

In the Faculty of Practice role, the successful applicant will be expected to remain active in the professional practice through consulting activities and/or industry collaborations that relate well to the scholarship of teaching and learning in the electronic and computer engineering technology fields.

The successful applicant will be expected to support the mission of the department through outstanding undergraduate teaching, advising and service.

The successful candidate who serves for six years or more is eligible to be considered for non-tenure track promotion in accordance with the university’s recently implemented Faculty of Practice promotion policy.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Computer Science, and a master’s degree in a technical or technical management field
• At least 2 years of relevant technical experience
• Effective written communication skills
• Ability to teach and perform scholarship activities within an Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology program
• Articulated commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level and to support the department’s and UD’s commitment to the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

● More than 2 years of relevant industrial experience

● Expertise and a record of professional growth within one or more of the technical areas of data communications, feedback controls, or industrial controls. We are especially interested in candidates with experience within one or more of these domains:
o cybersecurity
o industrial automation and controls
o product design
o advanced manufacturing
o industry 4.0 applications.

● Demonstrated successful experiences in:
o teaching technical subjects
o employing active learning approaches
o advising and/or mentoring in a professional or academic environment
o working with and/or teaching socially and culturally diverse communities.
o collaborating with industry
o collaborating within a team environment
o fostering domestic and/or international partnerships in industry and/or academia

● Successful experience developing curricula, courses and/or lab activities

● Established record in developing and sustaining partnerships between higher education and industry related to electrical or computer engineering, especially including supplementing the classroom learning environment with direct industry input

● Successful grant writing activities, obtaining external funding

● Successful participation in the industrial community and professional societies

● Effective spoken communication skills

● Effective interpersonal communication skills

● An appreciation of the University’s Marianist values of theory-to-practice, practical wisdom, inclusivity, community and educating the whole person

Applicants are required to submit a cover letter, their curriculum vitae, contact information for three references, and all unofficial transcripts. The cover letter shall be limited to two pages or less, but should articulate how the applicant meets all required qualifications and any preferred qualifications.

In addition, applicants are required to submit the following statements, limited to two pages each or less: 1)statement of teaching, highlighting how you would approach active learning in Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology courses using current pedagogical approaches, 2) statement of industry/education collaboration plans 3) statement of how you would promote inclusive excellence through your teaching, industry collaboration, and service. Applications must be received by January 10, 2022, 11:55 pm EST.
