The Department of Philosophy at Suffolk University invites applications for a non-tenure track full-time instructor in Philosophy and PPE (Politics, Philosophy, and Economics) beginning July 1, 2022. The area of specialization is History of Philosophy and/ or Social and Political Philosophy, with demonstrated teaching excellence in Ethics, both theoretical and applied. Core responsibilities include teaching four undergraduate courses per semester, advising students in the PPE program, and performing other service to the department and the College. Candidates must hold a doctorate in Philosophy at the time of appointment and have at least two years of teaching experience.

We are particularly interested in the candidates who are enthusiastic about teaching philosophy and helping students improve their skills. The successful candidate is expected to teach introductory-level Ethics courses, such as Contemporary Moral Issues, Social Ethics, or Global Ethics, as well as courses in the History of Philosophy and Social/ Political Philosophy. Opportunities to teach upper-level courses and develop new courses in the applicant's area of expertise/ interest will also be available.

The department values both historically-oriented philosophy and engagement with current issues, and we welcome applicants from various intellectual backgrounds and traditions. Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning and public engagement. The department serves over 120 undergraduate majors (Philosophy and PPE combined) with robust extracurricular programming.
