    Department Summary
    The Division of Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS) promotes academic excellence, universal access, engagement and achievement for the student scholar. UESS programs focus on the educational trajectory of the student by providing opportunities and services essential for progress toward scholastic objectives and intellectual development. UESS departments and programs serve the entire population of UO undergraduate students and partner closely with other campus units to support student success and engagement.

    UESS units include: the Accessible Education Center (AEC); Center for Undergraduate Research and Engagement (CURE); Academic Residential Communities (ARCs) and First-Year Interest Groups (FIGs); Office of Academic Advising (OAA) - including Health Professions Program (HPP), PathwayOregon (POr) and Trio Student Support Services (SSS); Office of Distinguished Scholarships; Tutoring Center; and UESS Administration.

    The Accessible Education Center (AEC) facilitates and supports access and inclusion for students with disabilities. The AEC coordinates services, determines student accommodations, provides advocacy and collaborates with students, faculty, staff and the community to create and sustain accessible physical, curricular and informational environments. AEC is a department within UESS which promotes academic excellence, engagement, access, and success for all students.
    Position Summary
    This position manages AEC front desk operations and is the front line person representing AEC to the public. The incumbent will have frequent interaction with both undergraduate and graduate students, parents, faculty/staff, and prospective students. This position requires the ability to exercise high levels of sensitivity and cultural awareness, work independently, demonstrate sound judgment, and exercise creative problem-solving. Responsibilities include administrative/clerical support, providing information and assistance, and various other business/general office functions. This position has authority to make decisions regarding routine issues, and respond to immediate physical access needs (such as class relocation), analyze needs of students/faculty and refer to appropriate office/staff or handle as needed.

    The Front Desk Coordinator reports to the AEC Office Manager or a position delegated by Assistant Vice Provost for Accessibility, and provides confidential assistance and executive support to the Director and administrative support to AEC staff. This position is also responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and overseeing 2-5 student reception staff.
    Minimum Requirements
  • Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which includes typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents;
    OR
  • An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology;
    OR
  • Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.

    College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating multi-line telephone equipment to receive and route calls.
  • High impact public contact experience providing/requesting information to/from persons who are irate, confused and/or frustrated; experience communicating decisions regarding the approval or denial of benefits or services.
  • Experience explaining or determining compliance with laws, rules and/or regulations.
  • Experience supervising or leading part-time, volunteer, or student staff.
    -Experience handling medical/mental health records.
