Job Description

The Student Activities Assistant helps to organize and deliver student programming services and activities with an emphasis on diversity and inclusion while supporting student organizations with programming and training opportunities related to diversity. The Student Activities Assistant will also coordinate programing that supports international student engagement, and provide a variety of cultural programming during Awareness Months (LGBTQ, Asian Pacific Islander, Black History, Mental Health, etc.) The Assistant coordinates a variety of outreach efforts and special events to grow student involvement and participation. 

 

Essential Duties Summary

• Helps plan and coordinate seminars, orientations, workshops, and other activities (i.e., mid-year retreat for student clubs and organizations.) Serves as a liaison between faculty, students, student clubs and organizations, vendors, and/or other College departments. Develops concepts, designs and coordinates promotional materials and invitations, and directs logistical planning. 

• Develop, facilitate and execute diversity programming for the College

• Research diversity initiatives to strengthen diversity outreach on campus.

• Oversees the day-to-day interactions of the TISO (Team International Student Outreach) program. 

• Assists with developing and implementing student leadership resources. Creates training modules for leadership training. 

• Assists in the preparation, production, and distribution of informational and/or promotional material. Assists in promoting and publicizing programs through classroom visits, group presentations, informational meetings, and social media. Maintains current information on websites, social media, handbooks, and/or other marketing materials. Serves as a resource for information-exchange on program services and features. 

• Maintains records and/or statistics on events produced. Assists supervisor with area assessment. 

• Negotiates and contracts with internal sources and outside vendors for a variety of goods and services related to special events planning. Monitors delivery of goods and services to ensure contract terms/agreements are satisfied. 

• Attends events/programs/activities to ensure details are handled as planned. 

• Reviews student club/organization applications and/or data for determination of program eligibility. Helps determine admittance to programs and/or provides alternatives or referrals as appropriate. 

• Sit on committees related to student development, student leadership, and outreach.

• Takes leadership on coordinating with Clubs and Organizations and student groups.

• Performs other related duties as assigned. 

 

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required. 

• Must be adept at using office software including Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint. 

• Must be self-directed and possess a demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment.  

• Must be reliable adhering to work schedules and following through on work assignments with minimal oversight. Must be proactive and willing to take initiative when appropriate. 

• Must be flexible in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying perspectives.

• Ability to work across the various entities in the College.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to details; Able to prioritize, multi-task and complete assignments on time. 

• Excellent typing skills with a high degree of accuracy. 

• Excellent communication skills and public speaking abilities with a natural ability for diplomacy. 

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in student affairs, student development, or related field. 

• Previous experience working with college students. 

• Familiarity with basic equipment including multi-line phones, fax machines, copying machines, cameras, etc.
