Job Description Summary  

The Assistant Dean for Diversity and Student Programs (DSP) is responsible for a cohesive set of undergraduate student success initiatives. The Assistant Dean for DSP coordinates, evaluates, and enhances these efforts, utilizes data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement practices, and achieves goal-orientated innovation. This position ensures the core values of Undergraduate Education—including student-centeredness, diversity, equity, and inclusion—guide all efforts within DSP.

The Diversity and Student Programs (DSP) unit within the Office of Undergraduate Education, College of Natural Sciences, fosters a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture to help students acclimate and navigate the university to reach their academic and personal potential at UT and beyond. 

 

Responsibilities
  • Administer and supervise diversity efforts in Undergraduate Education. Work with Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education to plan and implement innovative programs and strategies for increasing diversity through matriculation, retention, and support. Analyze trends and outcomes, and identify opportunities for new approaches and strategies.
  • Administer and supervise student programming efforts in the College of Natural Sciences. This includes planning, implementation, and evaluation of student programs and methods. Ensure college resources are being used efficiently and in the best way possible to support CNS students.
  • Establish budget priorities, as well as collect and track data on all diversity and student programming initiatives. Supervise and evaluate DSP staff. Lead professional teams that are well equipped to meet student needs. Cultivate and sustain a culture of excellent customer service to students, alumni, faculty, staff, and prospective student.
  • Represent the Associate Dean and/or College of Natural Sciences on University-wide committees related to diversity and student programming. Assist with Admission events as needed. Support Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in new initiatives.
  • Supervise CNS Undergraduate Education Admissions and Scholarship offices, including college and program recruitment and yield procedures and scholarship selection and awarding processes. 
  • Other related functions as assigned. 
 

Required Qualifications Graduate degree and a minimum of 6 years of progressive experience managing programs or developing initiatives. Demonstrated experience in student programming and diversity. Personnel management or supervisory experience. Three years of budget management. Strong research and data management skills. Demonstrated record of successful program development and assessment. Effective leadership experience with students, staff, faculty, and external stakeholders. Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to learn quickly and work independently. Superior written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated professional demeanor. Collaborative team-player able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.   

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

 

Preferred Qualifications Doctoral degree. Experience directing student programming in higher education. More than the required experience working with college students in a program support capacity. Excellent track record of increasing diversity.  Extensive experience working with faculty. Demonstrated creative and analytical thinking. Experience working with STEM students. Experience developing and implementing new programs. Experience with social media development. Familiarity with UT undergraduate student success programs. 

 

Salary Range $105,000 + depending on qualifications

 

Working Conditions
  • Standard Office conditions; repetitive use of a standard office equipment. 
  • This position is eligible for a flexible work arrangement; details of which to be agreed upon after hire and reviewed at regular intervals.
