Job Summary

The Department of Art & Art History at Drexel University invites applications for a non-tenure track Instructor appointment in its undergraduate program in Design Foundations at the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. This appointment will be for one year with the possibility of annual renewal. The instructor will teach three courses per quarter and is expected to begin in September 2022.

Applicants should be skilled and creative instructors with experience in teaching foundation design and color theory at the college level, with a combination of 2-D, digital media and traditional studio practices. Applicants must have a vision for developing new foundation level curriculum. This position facilitates cross pollination between departments and disciplines.

We are seeking a working artist with an established studio practice that engages both digital and traditional studio processes.

Preferred candidates will have expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration. They will have knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students and faculty in higher education; and experience or demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students. Essential Functions
  • Teach foundational level, two-dimensional design courses with an emphasis on developing an integrated mix of digital and studio practices as a necessary skill-set in the applied arts and the media arts. Three classes per quarter.
  • Participate in curriculum development across our department’s courses.
  • Service to Department/College/University, including committee work and student advising.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree, MFA or equivalent terminal degree
  • 2 years of teaching experience or comparable experience
  • Proficient knowledge of digital tools including the Adobe Creative Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching 2 years experience at the college level
  • Has an established studio practice that uses digital tools
