Job Summary

This is a full-time, academic year, tenure-track, Assistant Professor appointment in the Engineering Technologies, Safety and Construction (ETSC) Department. Located at the main campus in Ellensburg, the department awards a number of degrees including a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET). We seek an individual demonstrating dedication and excellence in teaching primarily in the MET program.  Faculty are expected to advise students; contribute to the ETSC department/ MET program; participate in program assessment/accreditation; engage in scholarship appropriate to their field; and provide service to the University, the community and their profession. Faculty will integrate CWU’s commitment to diversity and create a learning environment that is welcoming, accessible and inclusive for all students.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
  • Three years of industrial experience Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
  • Taught, or industrial experience in Applied Mechanics of Materials, Plastics/Composites/Ceramics, Metallurgy
  • Willingness to teach a wide range of courses at all levels and modalities
  • Research, teaching, service or other experience that has prepared the candidate to contribute to CWU’s commitment to the engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An earned doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate or Professional Licensure in Mechanical Engineering or a related area.
  • Prior experience in post-secondary education teaching that includes teaching lab related courses.
  • Experience in program review and accreditation such as ABET.
  • Relevant applied industrial work experience in casting / foundry.
  • Experience working in partnership with an industry advisory council and key external stakeholders in multiple industry sectors.
  • Experience or interest in developing and teaching online courses
  • Experience in curriculum development and improvement.
  • A record of promoting inclusivity in classrooms and academic work environments.
  • Research, teaching, or service that demonstrates an ability to contribute to CWU‘s commitment to inclusion and diversity.

The candidate is expected to teach MET/ETSC courses with integrated lab experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, and the following knowledge areas are desired: material sciences, applied mechanics of materials, plastics, ceramics, composites, statics, mechanics of materials, and dynamics. Skills include strong interpersonal communication and speaking skills; excellent organizational and management skills; solid modeling; Autodesk Products; Microsoft Software (Word, Excel, etc.).

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience

 

Appointment: Full-Time, Tenure-Track, 9 Month Appointment. Central Washington University is on the quarter system with appointments from mid-September through mid-June.
