Description of Responsibilities: The Assistant Professor of Microbial Ecology teaching responsibilities may include BIO 310 (Microbiology lecture and laboratories), BIO 120 (Molecular and Cellular Foundations lecture and laboratories), and BIO 316 (Laboratory in Genetics). The Assistant Professor will teach advanced courses in area of expertise that may include BIO 311 (Ecology of Host-Microbial Interactions), BIO 342 fungal biology, and may contribute to capstone courses. Responsibilities also include research with undergraduates, advising, and service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. with expertise in microbial ecology, with possible foci being mycology, plant-microbe interactions, or harmful algal blooms.
  • Experience with laboratory techniques adaptable to undergraduate teaching and research
  • A commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service, providing meaningful learning experiences to a diverse student population through inclusive pedagogy

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-doctoral research experience
  • Teaching experience and grantsmanship

Description of Department: The Department of Biology boasts an outstanding faculty who are committed to a high standard of teaching, research, and service to the college community. Our department has state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation for both teaching and research purposes, and because we specialize in undergraduate education, our students have a lot of hands-on experiences. Along with shared facilities such as the Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Center, microscopy suites, and the 400-acre Rice Creek Field Station, we also have a greenhouse, herbarium, animal care facilities, and a core histology lab.
