Coordinator for Student Retention and First-Generation Initiatives

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Student Retention and Educational Innovation, the Coordinator (Professional Services Specialist IV) supports all efforts for the Office and is responsible for assisting with the coordination of programs and initiatives related to first-generation college students, promoting student success, retention and persistence to graduation. The Coordinator analyzes and assesses University systems and data, as well as other sources of information to identify first-generation students at the University and develops innovative programs and initiatives to enhance student success and retention generally for this group of students. This is a highly collaborative position that will work closely with a diverse team of administrators, faculty, staff and students to ensure that the Division of Student Success and Retention’s services are well-supported and being used optimally. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and a minimum of one year of professional experience in student support services in higher education, K-12 or a related field is required . Professional work experience specifically related to support services for first-generation students in higher education is preferred. Internal applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute full-time related Kean work experience on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Candidate must be student-centered with excellent oral and written communication skills and customer service skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite is essential. Use of the student information systems Ellucian and Colleague is preferred.
