To provide leadership, direction, and support for The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice ( TDI ) research, education, and departmental operations in support of the TDI Director, faculty, and staff. Leads departmental operations and research administration teams, proactively anticipating and resolving operational issues. Collaborates other units at the Geisel School of Medicine to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Facilitates the development of departmental priorities and goals, oversees planning and implementation of strategic priorities, and facilitates collaborations with strategic partners. Works closely with counterparts across Geisel and at Dartmouth College to continually review processes, identify opportunities for improvement and allocate resources to achieve these goals.

  • Experience in financial and operational management in an academic setting
  • Excellent financial, management, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop, execute, and manage complex budgets
  • Ability to work effectively, independently, and as a member of a team
  • Willingness and ability to exercise judgment and initiative and to interact with faculty, personnel, and outside agencies in a professional manner

  • Ability to plan work, set priorities, and respond to pressures, deadlines, and changes in schedules and priorities
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Fluency in database management, spreadsheets, and other computer software
  • Ability to maintain and foster confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years of experience in management and leadership role
  • Master’s degree
  • Familiarity with Dartmouth accounting systems and procedures

Key Accountabilities

Description
  • Oversees team in management of operations: finances, grant administration, recruiting and personnel, facilities, and communications. Ensures timely accomplishment of the workload, compliance with policies and procedures, collaboration with Geisel and College colleagues, and efficient and effective operations. Coaches and mentors team to meet evolving department needs.
Percentage Of Time 30% Description
  • Oversees annual budget development and forecasting/modeling efforts for all TDI programs and initiatives, provides oversight over team responsible for preparation and submission of grant applications, analysis of spending patterns/needs. Works across TDI and Geisel to provide regular monitoring of performance and communication about financial status for research, education, and departmental programs.

  • Partners with the Director and leadership to develop plans that meet identified needs-including faculty recruitment, proactively prevent and resolve problems, effectively manage change, and guide decision making and direction setting on departmental issues.

  • Improves operational processes and systems to promote efficiency and enhance service, in collaboration with Geisel and College administration.

  • In partnership with leadership, facilitates the establishment of organizational goals and priorities and oversees the implementation of strategic initiatives to achieve those goals.

  • Promotes effective collaboration with strategic partners by building relationships, defining goals and areas of mutual interest, and resolving operational challenges.

  • Develops, interprets, and applies financial and administrative policies and procedures that comply with institutional policies and clarify expectations for faculty, staff, and collaborators.
Percentage Of Time 5% Description
  • Collaborates with representatives of Dartmouth College, Geisel, Dartmouth-Hitchcock, and other external partners to provide information, seek clarification of requirements and advance issues of mutual interest.
