Assistant Professor - Theatre: Costume Technology-Tenure Track

 

Niagara University Department of Theatre and Fine Arts invites applications for a full-time (10 month) tenure-track position to begin in the Fall semester, of 2022. https://www.niagara.edu/theatre Niagara University is a private liberal arts institution, sponsored by the Vincentian Community and located on the US-Canada border near Niagara Falls, NY. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and developing costume-related courses as part of our B. F. A. professional training program with tracks in Design and Production, Performance and Specialization (Directing, Playwriting.) This includes overseeing production practicums for all theatre majors and serving as the Costume Shop Director. Creative research and scholarship in costuming and theatre-related areas will be expected and supported. Service to the development of the department, college, and university will also be anticipated.

Required qualifications include: an M.F.A. in costume technology or a related area, a strong record of teaching at the university level, professional or university experience managing a costume shop including budgeting and purchasing and costume draping, tailoring, and construction

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising the daily running of the Costume Shop and the personnel who work there
  • Establishing and overseeing all safety guidelines and protocols for costume areas
  • Mentoring student designers and technicians
  • Pattern drafting, draping, and tailoring for departmental productions
  • Overseeing the costume budget and purchasing with the department’s Costume Designer
  • Able to manage multiple shows in production simultaneously
  • Attend all production meetings and costume fittings
  • Attend dress rehearsals as needed
  • Supervise and delegate all costume-related needs from conception to onstage production
  • Assist Costume Designer in online research and fabric shopping
  • Oversee the cataloging and maintenance of costume stock
  • Serve as an academic advisor for theatre students
  • Attend all faculty meetings, student evaluations, entrance interviews for potential students, and other departmental events
  • Other areas to contribute to the department desired but not required: the ability to design, millinery, crafts, design or patterning software, wigs, knowledge of film and television industry
  • Evening and weekend responsibilities

Salary: $45,000 – 52,000
