The University of Arizona invites nominations and applications for the position of founding director of its School of Mining and Mineral Resources. UA seeks a globally recognized, visionary leader for this opportunity to lead an interdisciplinary school that is reinventing mining and mineral resources education and innovation at a Top 40 public research university.

 

The University of Arizona School of Mining and Mineral Resources is a joint venture between the College of Engineering and the College of Science that seeks to transform how academia, industry and policy-makers work together to provide economically, socially and environmentally sustainable mineral resources. The director must possess a broad understanding of mining and mineral resources lifecycles and related issues such as sustainable development and security of supply as well as topics such as circular economy, including technical, social, environmental and economic aspects.  A degree in a STEM field related or relevant to mining and mineral resources is required, as is a track record in industry, government, or NGO employment. The University of Arizona has been a global leader in mining education since 1885. Today, the university partners with industry and agencies across the region and world to transform mining and mineral resources education and research. The School of Mining and Mineral Resources is building on strong support from the university president, provost, senior vice president for research, and deans of engineering and science. External funding includes $4M annually from state coffers and nearly $10M in initial industry donations and endowments.
