Mission or Goal of Unit: The Division of Pediatric Critical Care at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR) is dedicated to excellence in clinical care for all critically ill children, teaching, service, and research.

Chief Purpose of this position: We are seeking an additional individual at the level of assistant, associate, or full professor non-tenure eligible rank to be a part of this effort in our soon-to-be state-of-the-art 24-bed family centered multidisciplinary pediatric intensive care unit.

Successful candidates should be eager to be a part of a major dynamic effort to create a superior academic pediatric critical care division in a collegial atmosphere. Candidates will perform didactic and bedside teaching for students, residents, and fellows, and provide superb patient care in a collaborative environment. Clinical programs include pediatric trauma in Virginia’s only level 1 pediatric trauma program, neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery, pediatric burn care, solid organ and stem cell transplantation, and all aspects of pediatric critical care medicine including extracorporeal support.

Successful candidates must be board certified or board eligible in pediatric critical care. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required.

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching : Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in the area of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Faculty member will provide teaching and mentorship to medical students, residents, and fellows.

Research : Faculty member will have experience in bench and/or clinical research (as attested by publications and/or grants and contracts) and be able to participate in other clinical, translational, and outcomes research that the Division is pursuing. Developing their own research project is strongly encouraged.

Service : Faculty member will serve on departmental, hospital, or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate, as well as professional activities through journal review, conference presentations, etc.

Clinical : Faculty member will serve as a pediatric critical care medicine physician for the Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care. The division provides 24/7 coverage of the intensive care unit (currently 20 beds, 24 by spring of 2023).
Faculty member will also be expected to work shifts in our community pediatric critical care unit at St. Mary’s Hospital (currently 14 beds).

Other (for instance administrative duties, etc.): Faculty member will take on administrative duties associated with this role.

Required Qualifications:

Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine.
Eligible for a medical license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Experience with clinical care of critically ill children
Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in an academic medical center
Experience with research (as attested by publications and/or grants and contracts)
Additional training and/or extensive experience caring for pediatric surgical/trauma patients
Additional training and/or extensive experience caring for congenital heart surgery patients
