The Department of Surgical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin, School of Veterinary Medicine is soliciting applications for 1 full-time Assistant Teaching Professor in Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery. The successful candidate will join the Small Animal Surgery Section, which is comprised 6 full-time ACVS Diplomates, 6 residents/interns, and a dynamic group of certified veterinary technicians. The UW Veterinary Care teaching hospital is equipped with state of the art equipment including arthroscopy, MRI, CT and ultrasound.

 

Qualifications: American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) or European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) Board Certification with advanced training in orthopedic surgery is preferred. Board Eligibile individuals will also be considered. Must be licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in the State of Wisconsin.

 

This position has a strong emphasis on academic clinical practice and teaching. Experience working with, teaching, or mentoring diverse groups or diverse interns, residents and students is also preferred.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Responsibilities will include providing clinical service in the teaching hospital, participation in clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students and residents, curricular development, and pursuit of scholarship of teaching and /or clinical research. Clinical duties include leading resident-based or student-based rounds that involve approximately 3 hours per week. Student case-based rounds are conducted by faculty in conjunction with residents when the faculty are assigned to clinic duties

 

Approximately 60-75% in Clinical Practice of Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery (including 30-36 weeks/year of clinic duty) and 30% non-clinical teaching (10-15 lectures/year and 15-20 laboratories/year), and 10% in Service.

 

Please note: The process for placement into the Teaching Professor and Research Professor titles is to be determined. Designs and facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction within an academic discipline to ensure quality delivery of instruction and integration of content within an academic work unit. Each department must define the specific substantive criteria for level advancement, however, differences between successively higher title levels must reflect demonstrable differences in experience and knowledge gained, applied to the specific duties of the function. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
