The Calvin University School of Business is seeking a full-time, tenure-track accounting and finance faculty member to join the university in August 2022.

Requirements

Ideal candidates will hold a PhD or DBA in accounting or finance or a JD. Candidates holding a MST, LLM, MBA, or CPA will also be considered. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and master’s levels and produce an active stream of relevant research and publication. The school seeks persons who are dedicated to the integration of their Christian faith with accounting and finance.

Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in US GAAP, US tax, and finance; strong networks among business executives; broad interdisciplinary interests; demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; ability to integrate questions of meaning, significance, and ethics into accounting and finance pedagogy; and commitment to experiential learning and engaging students beyond the classroom.

Responsibilities

Ideal candidates will teach courses primarily in tax, finance, and potentially in accounting, business law, financial planning, and estate planning; actively pursue a scholarship agenda; advise students; serve on Calvin University and School of Business committees; and actively engage in professional associations. 

About the Calvin University School of Business

In 2020, the Calvin University School of Business (CUSB) received a generous $22.25 million gift to build a new facility, strengthen its faculty, grow enrollments, and become a premier School of Business informed and guided by a Reformed Christian perspective. The CUSB has more than 500 students enrolled in its six undergraduate majors (Accounting, Finance, Financial Planning, Human Resource Management, Marketing, and Operations and Supply Chain Management) and its Master of Accounting and online Master of Business Administration. programs. All majors and programs feature significant elements of experiential learning along with strong academic components.

Our accounting and finance graduates enjoy extremely high placement rates, including in large international accounting firms, regional and local firms throughout the US and around the world, and positions in banking, investments, or corporate finance. Our accounting graduates experience strong CPA exam pass rates.

The CUSB has 14 faculty members all with both industry and teaching experience, many with terminal degrees. CUSB faculty value creativity and teamwork in helping students learn and gain hands-on experience with the business community. The CUSB is host to the Calvin Center for Innovation in Business (CCIB), which is funded by a generous endowment and supports scholarship, pedagogical development, and engagement with the business community via course releases and summer support.
