Scope of Job:
This position will be filled pending funding. The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley is seeking applications for a full-time, non-tenured Clinical Assistant Professor in the School of Rehabilitation Services & Counseling's degree in Addiction Studies to begin fall 2022. As clinical faculty in the Addiction studies degree, the successful applicant will be expected to teach 4 courses per semester including clinical, field-based supervisions. Additional duties include managing/coordinating and supervising student placements, advising, developing new clinical affiliation sites, and maintaining positive relationships with current sites. Faculty will be required to teach in a variety of settings incorporating technology and student engaged pedagogies to maximize student success. Given that UTRGV will be a distributed campus, faculty may be required to teach online or hybrid courses or teach at different locations. UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions and are committed to UTRGV's guiding principles (http://www.utrgv.edu/en-us/about-utrgv/transition-plan/guiding-principles), which include promoting access to postsecondary education to a diverse student body and to become one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving emerging research institutions in the U.S.A.

Minimum Qualifications:
(1) Master of Science in Addiction Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, or a closely related area from an accredited university;

(2) a minimum of 3 years post master’s professional work experience in the field with at least 2 years in direct client service providing substance abuse prevention or treatment; and

(3) Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC), National Certified
Addiction Counselor (NCAC), Masters Addiction Counselor (MAC), Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) or equivalent.

Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
(1) clinical and clinical internship supervision experience;

(2) online teaching experiences at the postsecondary level, and

(3) professional certification or licensure in an area related to the discipline (e.g., LCDC, LPC, MAC, etc.).



Preferred Qualification:
Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC-Supervisor, teaching experience in higher education.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days inlength.
