Responsibilities
The Director of Campus Housing is responsible for providing overall leadership and direction for the development of campus housing programs, operations, and services that function within the mission of the College and provides fiscal oversight for housing operations and programs. The Director oversees residential facilities that are safe, accessible, and well-maintained that leads to recruitment, retention, and student success. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement, the Director will specifically oversee all housing processes (such as move in/out, room selection, residential occupancy); facilities management of all housing (maintenance, custodial); capital planning and construction; business and administrative services; information systems; marketing/promotion, and overnight accommodations for summer conferences and the summer student leadership program.

Responsible for a housing operation that serves over 1,600 residents, which includes themed living-learning options for students, the Director must work closely with the Associate Vice President's (AVP) areas of Engagement (Residential Experience, Student Involvement & Leadership, Campus Recreation) and New Student and Family Programs to create marketing and communication strategies, optimal facilities, and quality living and learning communities. The Director oversees a dynamic professional and student staff, and works with colleagues from across campus (including Facilities Services and Student Disability Services) to oversee the development of programs and services to meet the needs of resident students. The Director is responsible for housing revenue, an annual operating budget, and- with Facilities Services management- the maintenance and construction reserves. In conjunction with the AVP, the Director leads efforts to design and construct additional campus housing and assists with the planned renovation of existing halls. The Director oversees revenue streams and operations including campus guest housing and overnight housing for conferences and summer campus.

LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT: Supervise department staff. Manage and operate Campus Housing as a self-sustaining auxiliary operations of the College, including oversight of analyzing and projecting all statistics, capacities, assignments, availability, tracking, billing and budget. Develop objectives and priorities for Campus Housing in addition to off-campus options. Establish housing and dining rates. Along with Facilities Services, continuously inspect residence halls and develop a 5-year renovation plan that allows for regular maintenance, necessary upgrades and maximum occupancy of residence halls. Assist in the determination of final room and board aspects of new academic sessions throughout the year. Assist living-learning communities in recruitment and placement of students. Establish housing rates for Meetings, Events, and Conference Services to be used by contracted outside user groups. The Director works in concert with Dining Services to ensure that the combined programs of Campus Housing and Dining Services is seamless, productive, functional, and responsive to the needs of students and the campus in general. Provide rationale to senior management on how to best utilize existing residential facilities in order to maximize bed space and revenue year round. Oversees StarRez housing system.
FACILITIES AND STRATEGIC PLANNING: Collaborate closely with AVP and the Director of Residential Experience as well as members of Facilities Services on facilities renovations and ongoing construction projects in the residence halls. Partners with Advancement, Facilities Services, and the AVP to seek opportunities for additional housing facilities on and off campus. Seeking information and ensuring that students and residential staff are kept abreast as to what may affect their experience on campus. Provide leadership and decision-making ability for administrative housing concerns, such as room relocation and repairs. In partnership, develop policies and practices for summer and winter housing. Assist campus during emergencies which require housing support. Provides coordination of communication regarding impacts on students' residential experiences.

ASSESSEMENT, REPORTS, AND POLICY: Develop on-campus housing policies and procedures, including move-in and move-out, room selection, room assignments, and service and assistance animals; work with Community Life for the enforcement of policies. Develop and propose housing rates for academic terms, guest housing, and conferences/summer camps. Provide regular financial updates regarding housing revenue. Evaluate, assess, and enhance StarRez housing software. Work with Student Disability Services to provide appropriate accommodations and strategically plan for housing needs. Work closely with the AVP and Housing staff to develop an annual housing assessment process. Serve as the main source of central information for reports and analysis regarding housing on campus. Manages residential occupancy through careful coordination and collaboration with other departments around campus. Provides regular assessment of campus auxiliary services including food services, bookstore, and postage/warehouse.

HOUSING COORDINATION OF GUEST HOUSING & SUMMER CONFERENCES: Oversee all aspects of campus guest housing and housing for summer conference/sports camps guests; includes assignments, room and key prep process, billing, and check-in and check-out procedures. Primary contact and liaison for the Office of Meetings, Events, and Conferences Services regarding housing for guests. Provide quality service to conference clients, both external and internal. Serve as a resource of information on utilizing campus facilities. Recruit, train, and supervise the summer student leadership program assigned to department for summer months.

SUPERVISION AND TRAINING: Recruit, select, train, evaluate, and directly supervise Housing Operations Manager, department student assistants, summer student leadership positions, and partner with Residential Experience to provide training and support to residential staff. Active participant in the annual Resident Advisor Training, Resident Director Training, and ongoing training for residential staff and summer conference services staff. Provides assessment and evaluation of department needs in order to best serve residential population of campus.

CAMPUS-WIDE PARTICIPATION AND COLLABORATION: Co-chair campus food committee. Chair the Facilities/Housing Logistics Committee. Participate and assist with College-wide programs, activities, and training as needed. Participate as a member of the College's Enrollment Group, Core Colleague Meeting, Onboarding & Finances, and auxiliary committees. Participate in both Division and College committees as assigned. Collaborations and partnerships with the following departments: Food Services, Facilities, Registrar, Admissions, Business Services, Athletics Summer Camps, Student Disability Services, IT, and Student Life colleagues to assess needs, discuss comprehensive housing policies and schedules, and identify common areas of collaboration.

Other duties as assigned. Serve on campus emergency response teams. As needed, support student conduct system. Provide expertise on housing operations to campus partners.

Experience and Qualifications
Education

REQUIRED: Bachelors degree.
DESIRED: Masters degree in higher education administration, college student personnel administration, or related field.

Experience / Skills

  • 6-8 years of progressive experience in higher education and/or financial management in the context of auxiliary operations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Computer literacy and experience with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, data analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; strong fiscal management skills; demonstrated knowledge of and experience in higher education student development theory, risk management and legal issues; experience working closely with students from diverse backgrounds in a higher education setting; demonstrated ability to speak effectively in public; demonstrated experience working collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty in a wide variety of College committees, departments, and/or student organizations to develop and implement programmatic or new initiatives; experience in dealing with complex issues and solving them with innovative strategies.
