Position Summary:
Instructional Design Technicians perform professional-level activities requiring specialized skills in instructional design, interactive learning, and related instructional technology resources. Incumbent responsibilities include collaborating with program administrators, Instructional Design Specialists and faculty in instructional design, researching new tools for adaptive learning, and creating learning activities and content for online classes.

Typical Essential Duties

Responsible for:

Participating in the development of instructional materials and aids, per faculty, program administrator and/or instructional design specialist specifications.
Coordinating with instructional design specialists to insure that quality standards and accessibility are satisfied in all provided materials.
Engaging in course reviews, documenting review status, recommendations and completion of required course modifications and additions.
Assisting with course migrations, packaging courses, verifying migrated courses and working with faculty to fix migration issues.
Documenting implemented applications and tools to facilitate effective support to the related systems.
Providing information and coordinating updates on instructional technology tools.


Requirements::
Education:

Bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field.

Experience:

Three (3) years experience designing and utilizing instructional technology.

* An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of those requirements listed above.

  • Image/video manipulation techniques;
  • Training techniques;
  • Customer service principles;
  • Recordkeeping principles;
  • Computers and related software applications.

Skills:
  • Evaluating hardware and software applications;
  • Installing, configuring and troubleshooting technological systems and/or software;
  • Identifying, researching, troubleshooting, and resolving complex technical issues;
  • Converting files;
  • Communicating technical information to a non-technical audience;
  • Providing customer service;
  • Maintaining records;
  • Training end-users and faculty members;
  • Using a computer and related software applications;
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with subordinates, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to give and receive work direction.

Physical:
  • Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Responsibilities:

Instructional Design Technicians perform professional-level activities requiring specialized skills in instructional design, interactive learning, and related instructional technology resources. Incumbent responsibilities include collaborating with program administrators, Instructional Design Specialists and faculty in instructional design, researching new tools for adaptive learning, and creating learning activities and content for online classes.
These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.
1.
Plans, implements, and analyzes technological solutions in an academic environment; defines requirements for useful, logical, and effective solutions.

2.
Coordinates online course technologies which require conferring with faculty to determine needs and technology capabilities; training and supporting users; administering course software; and/or other related duties.

3.
Conducts research related to academic technologies and delivery techniques to remain current on best use of instructional tools to meet learning objectives.

4.
Performs content processing and design duties which includes converting documents into interactive content and assessments; creating graphics, editing images, audio files, and video files; and/or related duties.

5.
Customizes master courses and provides training to users in delivery of developed online and blended courses.

6.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
