The University of Alabama is seeking an innovative, experienced, and collaborative clinician and leader to serve as the next Director of Collegiate Recovery and Intervention Services (CRIS). Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Student Health and Wellness, the Director is responsible for supervision of CRIS staff, has oversight over fiscal resources for the department, provides clinical supervision of mental health services, and supports the development of new programs and strategies to increase the number of students served. Collegiate Recovery and Intervention Services
Collegiate Recovery and Intervention Services (CRIS) provides a comprehensive continuum of care for students with substance use concerns. Services range from prevention, awareness, and exploration of consequences for high-risk behaviors to a supportive, safe, and engaging environment that supports students seeking or contemplating recovery from addiction. CRIS is one component of Student Health and Wellbeing within the Division of Student Life.
Led by an Associate Vice President, Student Health and Wellbeing encompasses CRIS, the Counseling Center, the Women and Gender Resource Center, and University Recreation. The University promotes a holistic view of student wellness that is embodied in the Alabama Model of Student Health and Wellbeing. The Model is grounded in the fundamental understanding of student development and cultural competence, and it demonstrates the high priority the University places on supporting students in order for them to be successful during and after their time on campus.

Primary Responsibilities
• Oversees all administrative functions for the department, including assessment of program operations, development of policies and procedures, staff meetings and annual evaluations, budgeting, workflow processes, security needs or issues, recruitment and hiring, and relations with other department heads and service entities
• Provides oversight of educational programs that aim to develop student accountability and reflection related to alcohol and other drugs, including students who have violated the Code of Student Conduct
• Provides oversight of clinical services for students in Substance Abuse Services and Collegiate Recovery Community. These programs are unique in that there is considerable and consistent collaboration with various campus services to best meet the needs of students
• Provides outreach and consultation regarding substance abuse to campus community
• Provides administrative and, as needed, clinical supervision to all professional, trainee, and clerical staff who report directly to Director
• Engages in professional organizations and in on-going professional development, including coordinating trainings for staff
• Provides and sets the standards for the comprehensive substance (mis)use assessments and determination of program assignment for students, determination of appropriate on-campus referrals related to any potential co-existing mental health related concerns, and when necessary, determine the need for external treatment center care
• Serves as the lead person for the University's AOD Biennial review
• Other duties as assigned

Required Minimum Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge:
• Licensure in the state of Alabama at the level of an Independent Practitioner (LPC, LMFT, LCSW, clinical psychologist, etc.) or license-eligible within the state and license obtained within one year of hire.
• Specialized training and experience in the field of recovery and addiction studies (e.g., alcohol/drug use, addiction, recovery), including primary and secondary prevention strategies and treatment option.
• Evidence of progressive job responsibilities, leadership of professional staff, or organizational planning and program evaluation.
• Highly knowledgeable about addiction, treatment levels, recovery stages, relapse prevention, and components related to sustained recovery.
• Experience must include working with emerging or young adults.
• If in active recovery, must have completed at least seven (7) years in recovery.

Preferred Qualifications, Skills, and Knowledge:
• Graduate degree in a mental health field from an accredited program and from an accredited institution of higher education with four (4) years of experience.
• Direct experience working with college/university students within an institution of higher education in the area of intervention or recovery from substance abuse/addiction.
• Demonstrated commitment to expand multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through demonstrating self-awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with a diversity of people; fostering equity and inclusion.
• Knowledgeable about the intersection of alcohol and sexual assault.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills (listening, verbal, written) with a variety of on and off campus constituencies
• Planning/organizing/ problem solving, reasoning, and creativity skills
• Demonstrated knowledge and use of program assessment and evaluation processes.
