OGLETHORPE UNIVERSITY, Atlanta, Georgia. Assistant Professor of Communication, Film, and Media Studies (Tenure-Track), starting Fall 2022. Candidates must be capable of teaching existing introductory courses, adding to our offerings in digital media and social media, and developing new courses in global/non-western media and culture. A Ph.D. at the time of appointment, relevant teaching experience, and a coherent research agenda are expected of suitable candidates.

Responsibilities will include full-time teaching (3/3 course load), engaging in regular service to the university, and maintaining an active research agenda. In addition, candidates will be expected to teach in the Adult Degree Program (evening), contribute to the development of new Communication Studies and Film and Media Studies courses, participate in student advising, and teach in the University’s Core curriculum. Qualified candidates will demonstrate a commitment to teaching from a liberal arts perspective, stressing excellent writing skills, theoretical understanding, critical analysis, and connecting theory to practice.

Furthermore, we are seeking candidates who will take advantage of the learning opportunities our Atlanta location has to offer. For more information, see: www.oglethorpe.edu.

Oglethorpe is committed to fostering a campus community and intellectual environment that recruits and maintains diverse faculty and staff, promotes a culture of respect for diverse experiences and perspectives, and understands and addresses the role of inequality in shaping our individual and collective identities. We value faculty mentorship and support faculty teaching, research, and development through the Office of the Provost which works closely with the VP of DEI.

The university currently enrolls a diverse population of nearly 1,500 students who represent more than 30 states and 30 countries. More than half of Oglethorpe’s students identify as persons of color and 40 percent are the first in their families to attend college. Candidates from historically excluded groups, whose work furthers the institution’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals, and who bring varied life experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

To assure full consideration, please submit a letter of interest (which should speak to a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion), evidence of teaching effectiveness, curriculum vita, and three letters of reference.
