Xavier University’s Office of the Bursar is seeking a Student Account Generalist. Student Account Generalists serve as the primary customer service providers in the Bursar’s Office. Student Account Generalist are required to provide customer service to parents, students, faculty, and staff by phone, email or in person. This includes, but is not limited to, monitoring our office email account, counseling students and families on how to finance their Xavier education, cashiering student account payments (cash, checks, and wire transfers), and processing University accounts receivable, along with other tasks assigned by the Assistant Bursar.

Student Account Generalists need to be able to collaborate with other on campus offices (i.e. Controller, Financial Aid, Student Involvement, etc.) and balance and reconcile the previous business day's transactions to the General Ledger. Disburse and reconcile student club funds, process tuition credits for dropped classes and invoice, collect, and reconcile payments from 3 rd Party vendors. This position may also be required to supervise a cohort of student workers who support Bursar’s Office operations.

Required Skills:
  • Communication – Possess the ability to clearly and concisely communicate with students and families face-to-face, over the phone, and via email. Often times, student account research needs to be done while discussion is taking place with the student.
  • Technical – A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs is critical to effectively managing the workload. Most account research is done in the Banner ERP and CASHNet web interface. Background in these systems is advantageous but not required.
  • Analytical and Creative Problem Solving – The ability to think outside the box is critical. Each student’s situation is unique so it is important we approach student accounts with flexibility while also enforcing University policies.
  • Work Style – Having evidence of a strong work ethic, maturity, respectfulness and an upbeat approach to work and life are required traits.
  • Empathy – Perhaps the most important attribute a successful candidate will have is empathy. Meeting students and families “where they are” allows us to serve them in a fashion that is aligned with our Jesuit Values.
Minimum Required Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma with 3-5 years of accounting/accounts receivable experience
  • Customer Service Experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1-3 years working in Higher Education
  • Previous experience working with student information systems
  • Intermediate or above average experience working with Excel
