Daley College’s Arturo Velasquez Institute (AVI), in collaboration with the Chicago Bilingual Nurse Consortium (CBNC) established a Welcome Back Center to assist internationally educated healthcare professionals in continuing their professional careers in the U.S. and bridging their professional practice in Illinois.

Using the Welcome Back Initiative (WBI) model, the Welcome Back Center (WBC) at Daley College expands CBNC’s work with internationally educated healthcare professionals. The WBC is part of a national network of international healthcare workers assistance centers, providing information and resources to people who have received their formal education and training in a health field outside of the U.S., who live in the center’s respective state/area, and who would like to enter the healthcare sector in the U.S.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

Report to the Center Director, theGrant Writer (PT)is responsible for researching and identifying funding opportunities, and developing and writing grant proposals to obtain private and public sector grants and funding. in response to gran, and reports progress verbally and in writing. The position also designs and carries out fundraising plans for the Chicago Welcome Back Center. Performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Identifies appropriate foundations and organizations that support the work of the Chicago Welcome Back Center in search of grant funding opportunities.
  • Develops proposal concepts by identifying opportunities and needs; reviewing requests for proposal (RFPs), and attending strategy meetings
  • Writes grant proposals and prepares support documents that include narratives, needs analysis, goals, objectives, budgets and evaluation strategies.
  • Communicates with key stakeholders to review grant proposals and applications, ensure submissions comply with guidelines and criteria, and obtain approval for submission to funding agencies.
  • Maintains a database of grant proposal submissions and grant awards.
  • Prepares performance, progress and status reports as required by funding sources, and ensures their timely submission.
  • Writes and edits executive summaries, organization credentials and other program reports as requested by the Advisory Board and grant foundations.
  • Works with supervisor in developing and implementing plans for fundraising activities for the Center.
  • Engages volunteers including successful candidates from CBNC and the Welcome Back Center in fundraising activities.
  • Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in English, Journalism or a related field
  • One year of experience in grant writing, prospect research, general fundraising or a minimum of 2 years of comparable and transferable skills acquired in a professional setting
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive grant narratives, aligned with RFP or other grant requirements
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment
  • Ability to work will in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
