Position Summary:

The Systems Administrator I assist with the management of the Charter Oak technology infrastructure including resource management, physical and virtual configuration deployment; provides technical support to the end-user community; develops and maintains physical server-based and virtual technologies, and systems maintenance and deployment.

Incumbents must possess a proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in MIS or Computer Science.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:
  • Knowledge of fundamental computing and networking methodologies and technologies, Microsoft server technologies such as Exchange, SQL, SharePoint, and Active Directory.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with direct virtual technology skills and experience, especially VMware-based technologies such as ESXi, vCenter, and virtual desktop infrastructure VDI using VMware View.
Example of Job Duties:

Under the supervision of the Chair of the Director of Network Operations, the Systems Administrator solves the network needs of the campus community. Solutions range from single to complex and may be independently deployed or implemented through a team or a more formalized project.

The employee will be challenged to be a problem solver and innovator by effective performance in these essential duties:
  • Monitor and respond to helpdesk tickets to work them to a timely resolution.
  • Provides end-user support for MS Windows, Office Suite, and other PC Applications.
  • Responsible for management and maintenance of client endpoints – includes desktops, laptops, tablets, virtual desktops, and all peripherals.
  • Monitors network and data center systems.
  • Supports Windows domain and client computing infrastructure.
  • Assist with management of all ancillary Information Technology resources (Servers, Client computers, telecommunication equipment)
  • Maintains current knowledge of professional issues
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Starting Salary:

$49,805 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. Salary Range for this level is $49,805-$68,259.
