Job Description Summary

We are looking to fill two vacancies with this one announcement. This is a grant-funded posittion.

Responsible for the assisting the Program Director of the W.O.W/ DMSI programs in planning, developing, scheduling and implementing all program related events.
Through various modalities and with the use of technology, coordinators advise, provide guided assistance and direct counsel to students on every aspect of the college enrichment process from career exploration and development, scholarship and financial aid, placement and support services, and registration process in collaboration with pertinent. The Coordinator will serve as a bridge between TLSS and other student affairs areas to implement programs and procedures and provide exemplary student services. Additionally, the Coordinator will assist students in transitioning through the college, gaining connections to the campus, graduating, and transferring successfully.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in student personnel services, higher education administration, a social science or related field or equivalent formal training in related field.
  2. Combination of education and related experience for a total of six years.
  3. Experience making small group presentations.
  4. Experience providing direct service to a diverse population including disadvantaged students and/or students with disabilities.
  5. Experience training and coordinating efforts with faculty and staff for programming and planning activities or services.

Preferred qualification include experience with first generation and new college students, assessing academic needs, and creatively initiating, collaborating and organizing events and workshops for student success. This position requires the ability to reinforce learning strategies using a variety of teaching methods, including collaborative and active learning, and the ability to use technology as a teaching and learning tool.

  • Facilitates on-going academic and student support using an intrusive advising case management approach.
  • Facilitates marketing and recruitment efforts to obtain and retain program participants.
  • Develops active, collaborative, effective working relationships and programs with community and college personnel who are critical to student success.
  • Obtains ongoing data collection to initiate, discuss, implement, and assess timely strategies to improve student success.
  • Assists program director with scheduling, planning and implementing orientations, events, training, and workshops to support student retention and success.
  • Collaborates with college support services (e.g. Student Academic Planning and Career Readiness, Student Engagement & Leadership, Writing/Tutoring Center and other stakeholders) to successfully plan, implement, and deliver intentional retention initiatives for students.
  • Provides support to program participants through involvement in meaningful and appropriate activities designed to develop cultural, social, educational and vocational experiences.
  • Assists in the development and preparation of informational and marketing materials related to services and programming.
  • Conducts workshops, information sessions, coaching sessions and academic and career advising sessions.
  • Works closely with Records and Registration, Academic and Career Advising, Student Financial Aid, and Testing Center to remove barriers and to facilitate student matriculation.
  • Interprets and accurately communicates college policies and procedures for students.
  • Be proficient in the use of computer technology to support department activities, e.g. Colleague, Navigate, selected Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Bookings, Teams) and other related software.
  • Informs direct leadership of issues affecting retention and persistence of all participants.
  • Interprets Accuplacer, SAT, and ACT test results and/or identifies the proper prerequisites and course sequences for the student.
  • Attends staff meetings and staff training activities.
  • Maintains accurate and secure student records.
  • Conducts interactive sessions, speaking one-on-one and/or in front of large groups, to provide information regarding special program.
  • Provides quality customer service to students, internal employees and community members via phone calls, email, virtual and/or face to face interactions in a professional and timely fashion.
  • Maintains knowledge of and accurately communicates college resources and services.
  • Identifies and directs students to appropriate resources on or off campus to meet students’ needs.
  • Assists in the preparation of reports and provides statistical data as needed.
  • Ensures confidentiality concerning student information.
  • Participates in professional and staff development trainings (required and recommended).
  • Performs related work as required by the Project Director.
Job Requirements

  1. Must be available to work Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Work schedule is subject to change based on department needs.
  2. Spanish or French bilingual preferred.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  4. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
