Job Description:

The literacy program at Western Kentucky University is responsible for the overall leadership and operation of undergraduate and graduate programs in literacy education. Literacy education faculty members work collaboratively to maintain the rigor of the programs and foster community engagement to provide teacher candidates with opportunities to have an impact in their communities while they are students. The literacy education program in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Western Kentucky University is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track eligible Assistant Professor of Literacy Education faculty position in the School of Teacher Education beginning fall semester of 2022.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching courses in literacy at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Modeling effective teaching practices
  • Displaying a knowledge of literacy as both an art and a science
  • Providing effective supervision of field experiences
  • Demonstrating an active commitment to faculty, staff, and student diversity within the literacy program
  • Serving on university, college, and program committees
  • Serving as faculty advisor to undergraduate and graduate students
  • Supporting student recruitment and retention efforts
  • Utilize alternative methods of delivery or web-based instruction or strong desire to gain experience with alternative methods of delivery
  • Maintain an active research and scholarship agenda with potential for attracting external funding

 


Requirements:

  • An earned doctorate in literacy
  • A minimum of three years of P-12 teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct quantitative and/or qualitative research
  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in teaching, outreach, and service at the university level
