The Engineering Department and the Department of Radiation Oncology, Division of Medical Physics in Stritch School of Medicine at the Loyola University Chicago invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral associate, with expertise in the areas of Focused Ultrasound, Nanobiotechnology, Drug Delivery, Neuro Applications. The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for additional years based on performance and availability of funding.

This position will support research in the laboratory of Dr. Muna Aryal. Dr. Aryal’s research lab is in Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center within Health Science Division at Maywood. Candidates will be collaborating with Cancer Biology and Neuroscience/ Pharmacology Departments on relevant projects. We will be developing Focused Ultrasound-based drug delivery methods for noninvasive and targeted brain imaging and therapy. The project will integrate experimental, comparative, and quantitative approaches to find an effective method for brain imaging and therapy while better understanding the ultrasound role on cellular and molecular levels. The postdoc will also have the option of teaching 1-2 courses in the Department of Engineering each year. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who are interested in gaining teaching experience while conducting cutting-edge research.

The postdoc will work with Dr. Aryal to investigate noninvasive and targeted methods of delivering a wide range of therapeutic and imaging agents into the brain using focused ultrasound. S/he will be involved in several different aspects of the project, including collecting and analyzing data, writing manuscripts, giving presentations, and mentoring students. Experimental techniques will include acoustic field characterization of low-intensity focused ultrasound, production of lipid/polymer-based nanoparticles, animal experiments, optical imaging, ex vivo tissue studies, and collaboration with other academic or industry groups. Qualifications
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, biophysics, bioengineering, neuroscience, physiology, pharmacology, or an associated field with a strong emphasis on nanoparticle engineering and focused ultrasound-mediated brain drug delivery. Candidate should have considerable knowledge and experience in laboratory skills, good skills in oral and written communication in English, demonstrated ability to work independently and work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team, and contribute to an active intellectual environment. A background in working with rats is desirable but not required. Physical Demands None Working Conditions None Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
