Position Summary:
Arkansas State University (A-State) seeks an experienced, highly
motivated self-starter for the Director of Financial Aid and
Scholarships position. The Director manages and coordinates all
aspects of a comprehensive student financial assistance program,
overseeing $150 million annually awarded and disbursed to our
students.
The Director reports to the Vice Chancellor for Enrollment
Management and Global Outreach. The Financial Aid and Scholarships
office has a staff of 20 individuals, including three who report
directly to the Director.
A-State is a residential public university with a student
population of over 13,500. It is the flagship campus of the
Arkansas State University System which is comprised of eight
institutions of higher education within the state.
A-State is located in Jonesboro, Arkansas, population approximately
80,000, located 75 miles west of Memphis, Tennessee.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for awarding and disbursing $1S0M per year to over 13,500 students. Includes federal, state, institutional, and private funds
- Leverage financial aid packages and policies to achieve the University's recruitment and retention goals
- Direct operations to effect accurate, efficient, and timely delivery of student aid in compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies
- Serve as a member of Enrollment Management team which consists of the offices of Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, and Records and Registration (Registrar)
- Collaborate with strategic campus partners including Academic Affairs, Advising Services, Student Account Services (Treasurer), and Student Affairs to achieve University goals for recruitment and retention
- Demonstrate knowledge of federal financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures, including application for Title IV aid
- Responsible for completion of annual application for Title IV aid; ensuring approval of all programs and locations through the Program Participation Agreement; working with state and University internal auditors conducting annual audits
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Proficient knowledge of federal regulations, current issues in
higher education, and pending legislation; thorough working
knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations
Ability to work with people in a professional manner, utilizing
excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong ability to train, motivate, and manage staff
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor s Degree (Master's preferred) in related field
Eight years of experience working in higher education financial aid
at associate director level or higher
Experience in supervising a large, diverse staff and managing
complex financial aid programs
Experience with automated financial aid systems (extensive Ellucian
Banner experience preferred)
