The Department of Art at Reed College invites applications for a
tenure-track position in visual and material cultures of the 19th
and 20th centuries. As we look to expand our department's current
curricular offerings (https://www.reed.edu/art/faculty-staff/index.html),
we are especially interested in South Asian, African, Latin
American, Indigenous, or Oceanic material and visual cultures, as
well as research that expands beyond area studies and the nation
form. We welcome candidates with training in a wide range of
disciplines and/or who have taken non-traditional career paths. We
anticipate making the appointment at the assistant professor level.
The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses of their
own creation and contribute to Reed's interdisciplinary Humanities
program, with initial appointment in Introduction to the Humanities
(https://www.reed.edu/humanities/hum110/index.html),
a writing-intensive, year-long course required of all first year
students and taught in small seminars. Teaching duties also include
advising year-long senior theses, teaching in a combined studio and
art history department, and in some years teaching your own version
of the department's introductory theories and methods course and/or
our Junior Seminar. Candidates should receive their PhD by August
2022.
