The Muskingum University Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting August 2022. The successful candidate will teach a range of undergraduate courses and will contribute to the department’s development of innovative curriculum and pedagogy. The ability to teach statistics from both a conceptual and applied viewpoint is a high priority; academic or industry experience within the actuarial science field is highly desirable. Expectations include a dedication to continuous improvement of undergraduate teaching, commitment to engage all students with their mathematical education, capacity for impactful research, and contributing service for departmental initiatives.
Qualified candidates will have completed a doctorate in Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related area of the Mathematical Sciences with a demonstrated ability to teach at the university level. Additional qualifications are proven ability to work within a team environment and to work collaboratively with campus and community partners to facilitate student learning opportunities in professional settings in the mathematical sciences.
Muskingum is a comprehensive university with a strong liberal arts tradition located just seventy miles east of Columbus, Ohio, in the village of New Concord. The university’s total undergraduate, graduate, and adult-learner student population is approximately 2,500.
The university actively seeks out and welcomes faculty and staff who are committed to inclusive excellence in teaching and student learning, thrive in a collaborative environment of scholars, embrace experiential learning, consider the engagement of diverse communities in the educational experience, and desire to mentor a multicultural student population. An equal opportunity employer, Muskingum University strongly encourages applications from women and minorities, including members of populations traditionally underserved by higher education.
Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, statements of teaching
philosophy and research plans, unofficial graduate and
undergraduate transcripts, and a list of three professional
references with contact information and relationship to the
applicant to mathsearch@muskingum.edu.
Questions may be directed to Dr. Rich Daquila, Chair, Department of
Math and Computer Science at rdaquila@muskingum.edu.
Review of applications will begin on January 10, 2022 and will
continue until the position is filled. Appointment to this
position is conditional upon successful completion of a background
check through the University’s background check agency.
