Position Summary

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science , University at Buffalo, the State University of New York, seeks a chair for the department of pharmaceutical sciences. The department has longstanding distinction and a rich history of excellence in the disciplines of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and biopharmaceutics, and pioneered the founding principles of contemporary pharmaceutical sciences. It maintains a strong and diversified funded research portfolio, manages academic programming leading to the BS, BS/MS, MS, and PhD degrees, and works collaboratively with the Department of Pharmacy Practice in the education and scholarly development of PharmD students. The school is part of a comprehensive academic health center which includes schools of medicine, nursing, dentistry, public health and social work. UB is the flagship university of the SUNY system, with the leadership, resources, and vision to become a top-25 public research university.

The department currently is composed of 20 faculty members representing diverse scientific disciplines (systems pharmacology, pharmacoengineering, pharmacometrics, molecular modeling, drug metabolism/transport, physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling, protein therapeutics, characterization of protein biotherapeutics, pharmacogenomics, and medicinal chemistry) who share common interests in discovering, developing, and optimizing drug therapies. Its world class research and graduate education programs span diverse aspects of small molecule and protein therapeutics through multi-disciplinary research in experimental therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, mathematical modeling, drug delivery, drug metabolism and transport, pharmacogenomics, systems pharmacology, and drug analysis. This rich research environment, coupled with a culture of discovery, prepares students for a diversity of career paths in drug discovery, development, and evaluation.

We seek a visionary and innovative leader who will lead continuous growth in the department’s research and educational enterprises and who will shape the future pharmaceutical sciences for transformative advances in the field, including defining a global vision to accelerate scientific drug discoveries that impact health. The next chair will have an internationally recognized research program and demonstrated excellence in procuring federal funding. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a world-renowned department, directing and cultivating a diverse cadre of faculty along with overseeing outstanding externally funded research programs. The chair will be instrumental fostering large scale, federally funded applications that enhance impactful collaborations across the department, school, and university. The chair will be responsible for managing the department’s fiscal, physical, and human resources, and will be a key member of the school’s leadership team.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD (or equivalent degree) with the strong academic credentials expected for appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure. While experience in a university environment is preferred, candidates who have led impactful research programs in government or industry will be considered. Candidates must provide evidence of strong interpersonal, leadership, and management skills, as well as a demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion in research, teaching, and service and to the development of junior colleagues. Minimum Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent degree).
• Evidence of strong academic credentials expected for appointment at the rank of full professor. While experience in a university environment is preferred, candidates who have led impactful research programs in government or industry will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Internationally recognized research program in pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, drug delivery, pharmacoengineering, pharmacogenomics, drug metabolism/transport, pharmacometrics, or systems pharmacology, and exceptional interpersonal, leadership and management skills.
• Experience with large program/project grants
