The University of Bridgeport, School of Health Professions seeks a full time lab manager to coordinate laboratory courses in the Health Science (HS) and Medical Laboratory Science (MLSC) program starting ASAP. The role is for a twelve-month lab manager and will include teaching and/or assisting in courses, coordination of all laboratory activities to meet safety/accreditation standards and all other aspects of laboratory management.

Primary Responsibilities include:

Coordinating and supervising HS/MLSC lab courses and related duties including:
  • Assist in phlebotomy laboratory training with simulation devices
  • Collection of blood specimens through venipuncture and/or dermal puncture
  • Safety policy development and monitoring to meet OSHA standards
  • Laboratory inventory control and waste management
  • Laboratory preparation, specimen procurement and disposal
  • Laboratory organization and maintaining a clean environment.
  • Provide laboratory assistance and/or instruction, including provide assistance to adjunct instructors and faculty as needed.
  • Maintain physiological monitoring instruments used for training HS students.
  • Other projects as assigned utilizing available resources to meet the learning needs of SHP students as required by certification and accreditation standards.
Other Related Duties:
  • Supervision of student employees and/or GA’s.
  • Recruitment activities and liaison with high school collaborations (may include Saturdays)
  • Assist faculty in research activities.
  • Interact, communicate and integrate with other departments of the University of Bridgeport community.
  • Performs related duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • BS degree, 2 years recent clinical experience and MLS (ASCP) certification or equivalent preferred
  • MS degree and one-year previous college or university lab experience is acceptable.
  • Previous college, university lab teaching lab and/or clinical experience is required.
  • Documented continuing education within the last three years;
  • Participation in the operation and accreditation of a level 2 Microbiology laboratory.
