Position Summary:

Performs journey-level plumbing and Electrical work. This entails installations, alterations and repairs of pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating control, domestic water and waste water systems. Installations, alterations and repairs of electrical systems and equipment such as motors, transformers, wiring, switches, fire alarm systems, controls, accord to specifications and plumbing and electrical codes. May supervise others or act as a supervisor in the absence of his/her direct supervisor. Prepares sketches and plans to scale from written or verbal instructions. Recommends and orders the type, quantity and quality of materials needed to complete work orders.

Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the craft or crafts to which assigned
  • Use tools, machines, equipment and material of the craft or crafts to which assigned
  • Train and supervise others
  • Plan and lay out work and diagnoses problems
  • Efficiently reads and interprets plans, diagrams, architectural blueprints and specifications
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, plumbing issues, Simplex fire alarm systems, Emergency Generators and other utility trade tasks
  • oversee the repairs of a water main break or power outages

Operating Needs:
  • Operates a variety of hand, power and special tools for extended periods
  • Performs moderate to heavy manual labor
  • Works from ladders, man lifts or scaffolding
  • Effectively uses and comprehends parts, operating and repair manuals
  • Has good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with others as a team
  • Able and willing to work overtime, sometimes on short notice, responds to off-hour emergency requests, and provides an acceptable response
  • Familiar with pertinent codes related to electrical, plumbing and fire safety
  • Works well with diverse groups, as a team, with a positive customer service attitude
  • Obtain Asbestos Supervisor Certification within six (6) months of hire

Minimum Qualifications:
Non-competitive: four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled
tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training,
apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and
training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute,
or branch of the Armed Services.

Candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a large facility electrical repair and installation environment
  • Confined space experience in high voltage maintenance
  • ARC flash training
  • Extensive relevant journeyman level electrician experience (working on three phase, lighting contactors and fire alarms
