Scope of Job:
To prevent, evaluate, diagnose and document treatment of hearing disorders, balance problems, and ear-related conditions. To establish a retail hearing aid program, potentially to provide services in evaluation and consultation, prevention, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatment of hearing and balance disorders for persons of all ages.

Description of Duties:
• Evaluates patients for hearing loss by performing diagnostic testing and makes recommendations for their care related to hearing abnormalities.
• Evaluates patients of all ages for balance disorders by performing diagnostic testing and makes recommendations for their care related to balance abnormalities.
• Evaluates patients of all ages for ear-related disorders by performing diagnostic testing, diagnose and make recommendations for their care related to ear-related disorders.
• Conducts physical examinations in order to diagnose patients for hearing loss, balance disorders, ear-related and or other related disorders and makes appropriate recommendations for treatment. • Establishes treatment plans based on diagnosis and recommendations in consultation with interprofessional or faculty personnel.
• Counsels and educates patients in methods to improve hearing impairment, including reading and sign language.
• Maintains patient records by recording and updating evaluations, changes, progress, and treatments.
• Participates in research in association with School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and College of Health Professions.
• Participates in educational activities as directed.
• Establishes retail hearing aid program for testing, aid devices, and aid adjustment.
• Updates job knowledge by tracking trends in new techniques and approaches; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Master’s degree in Audiology from an accredited university.

Preferred Education:
N/A

Licenses/Certifications:
Audiology license issued by the Texas State Committee of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.

Required Experience:
• Two (2) years of experience as an Audiologist, or • No experience with a Doctor of Audiology.

Preferred Experience:
Experience in academic audiology and or Ear Nose and Throat Clinics, experience with teaching students, residents and fellows. Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment. Hearing diagnosis equipment such as audiometers, acoustic immittance bridges, and hearing aid analyzers. Electronic medical records, hearing booth and associated equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Clinic environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Other:
Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work within an inter-professional team. Ability to analyze and interpreting test results data.
