Basic Function:
The Communication Coordinator for the Center for Global Engagement (CGE) reports to the Associate Provost for Global Engagement while working closely with the CGE staff team to support and strengthen international education initiatives at California Lutheran University through strategic communication.

Representative Duties:
  • Provide vision for, lead, and manage the marketing and general public relations outreach for CGE to Cal Lutheran and external communities E
  • In partnership with CGE offices, identify, design, and implement the promotional aspects of existing and new international initiatives to strengthen a student-centered approach to campus internationalization E
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate—in collaboration with appropriate offices—a strategic marketing/communication plan for CGE operations E
  • Support Associate Provost in development related outreach and donor engagement E
  • Review and expand the CGE public relations portfolio and general outreach protocol E
  • Cultivate relationships and network with key partners on- and off-campus to support effective communication of relevant office/university-related information E
  • Execute both general and event-specific communication campaigns through print, web, and social media platforms E
  • Oversee print publications for the CGE for items such as annual reports, unit brochures, office overview guide, college/school updates, etc. E
  • Design, implement and evaluate ongoing staff professional development and training particularly as related to topics relevant to internal and external communications, such as social media tips/techniques, fundamentals of marketing, branding standards and Cal Lutheran expectations, etc. E
  • Orchestrate the social media plan for CGE and offer outreach support/training to CGE staff E
  • In collaboration with the CGE Program Assistant, handle fundamentals of the CGE website, including creation and implementation of an ongoing content update process, verification of information, establishment of more student-engaging format, etc. E
  • With support from the CGE Program Assistant, manage the CGE promotional inventory and research/propose/select products for future use E
  • Oversee office compliance with university branding/marketing expectations E
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise student intern(s) to assist with communications work, with emphasis on graphic design/social media outreach E
  • Participating in CGE events and programming.
  • Other duties as assigned

Ability To:
  • Effectively handle multiple projects and tasks independently with consistent follow-through.
  • Work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Attend professional conferences and conduct some domestic and/or international travel, if needed.
  • Multitask with frequent interruptions.
  • Work effectively with diverse student and staff/faculty populations.
  • Work with technology systems (e.g., graphic design platforms) to advance communication efforts.
  • Collaborate with university colleagues in advancing communication efforts.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others in a team setting.
  • Craft communication to various audiences (e.g., internal/external, student/administrator, etc.)
  • Operate a computer, copier, fax, passport camera, and other equipment as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies, Graphic Design, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field and two years of experience in communication, marketing and public relations

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in relevant field area Professional work experience in related position within international education, preferably at an institution of higher-education Familiarity with Cal Lutheran marketing/branding standards Experience with development work, including fundraising campaignsAffiliation with NAFSA: Association of International Educators Experience working, living, or studying abroad
