Position Information

This is a part-time temporary, intermittent position.

** Successful candidates in these temporary intermittent appointments shall not exceed one thousand (1000) hours in any given fiscal year.

This position may require the incumbent to be on-call 24/7 to assist in revolving emergency or urgent issues. The incumbent is required to maintain contact with their campus outside of their normal working hours on a regular basis per the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement requirements. Remote contact shall include telephone, cell phone, wireless data access device, remote monitoring of any hardware or software device, and/or electronic mail notification regarding the status of a campus system.

The salary range for this classification is:$4,372 to $10,792 monthly.

Major Duties

Unter the general supervision of the Associate Vice President for University Effectiveness, Planning & Analytics, the Instructional Designer is responsible for providing support to faculty to enhance pedagogy within educational technologies and learning management systems

The Instructional Design Specialist partners with faculty in the instructional design process by advising and resourcing pedagogically sound design principles and exemplary practices. This includes but is not limited to developing and/or identifying effective educational approaches, designing learning experiences and meaningful assessments, and providing guidance on the use of technology to enhance student learning. Support is for developing online, hybrid, flipped, web-enhanced and conventional courses through individual consultations, workshops, and online resources and training.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

Master's Degree in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum, and Instruction, or related field, or equivalent training and applied experience.
● Five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant experience in Instructional Design or the equivalent experience through educational projects or course development.
● Experience applying instructional design theories, pedagogical methods, and multiple teaching modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, flipped, and online).

Preferred Education and Experience:

Ph, D., or Ed.d specializing in instructional design and development or related disciplines.
● Experience working in higher education.
● 3-5 years experience using a learning management system (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas, etc.) for instructional and course/program development.
● 3-5 years experience teaching/training users (instructors, staff, students) on effective uses of accessible instructional technologies.

  • Ability to apply consultative skills to assess user needs and provide appropriate support.
  • Ability to translate pedagogical research and practices into instructional curriculum based on the educator's learning outcomes/objectives.
  • Ability to translate collaborative learning strategies and formative assessment techniques for classroom teaching.
  • Knowledge of information technology systems and/or applications, including campus-wide systems, multimedia software or environments, and procedures.
  • Ability to integrate multiple applications and/or systems.
  • Ability to work with educators, instructional developers, and technical staff to evaluate, select and integrate web-based applications, digital multimedia, learning management systems and plugins, and other emerging technologies for online and in-class teaching and learning.
  • Ability to assess the potential value of new and emerging technology tools to facilitate student learning and to develop rapid mastery in preparation for guiding educators' use of those tools in pedagogically sound ways.
  • Proficiency using standard software packages
  • Knowledge of training theory and practices demonstrated by an ability to develop and deliver technical training and user documentation.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills in working with users to interpret needs and provide appropriate solutions.

    Responsibilities

    50% Maintain and deliver existing workshops and courses for faculty teaching face to face, hybrid, and online. Develop and deliver customized discipline-specific workshops as requested. Address functional and design issues involving online courseware for both students and faculty. Work with faculty one-on-one to provide recommendations for integration of technology, course design, and best practices in face-to-face, hybrid, and online instruction. Work with faculty in their creation of grant proposals involving instructional technologies.

    40% Assist faculty with solving basic technical problems with the LMS; investigate and seek solutions to complex issues regarding online teaching and learning. Continuously monitor the effectiveness of workshops and other faculty development activities. Develop promotional announcements for workshops and courses. Train and assist faculty in best practices for using a variety of technology in instruction to create a student-centric experience. Develop materials and train faculty in the use of smart classrooms.
