Job Summary
The IT Infrastructure Coordinator is part of Drexel University Information Technology's Network and Telecommunications team responsible for managing and maintaining the University's core communication infrastructure including the inside and outside cable plant, wired and wireless switching and routing equipment, university telephone system, and data center servers and appliances.
The primary responsibilities of this position are as follows:
* Reviews technical specifications and blue prints to assure that project plans meet IRT published design guidelines.
* Resolves issues within project scope or escalates unresolved issues so that project objectives are not compromised.
* Attends project meetings with construction teams, design teams, and other university employees.
* Develops scope and requirements for contracted work.
* Assist project teams in scoping and estimating project work.
* Conducts walk-thru with vendors bidding on work requests.
* Responds to government and other privately issued "one call" locate requests.
* Designs cable and conduit pathways (closets, cable trays, risers, etc.) and develops rough sketches and drawings
* Maintains inside and outside cable plant records and drawings
* Maintains project files and drawings
* Inspects contractor installation and maintenance work
* Coordinate access for contract employees
* Manages equipment inventory
* Manages network and telephone equipment installation (cable plant, wireless access points, network equipment, and power distribution systems)
* Monitor and respond to automated alert systems and phone, email request queues using ticketing system in order to provide service and respond to critical failures
* Perform diagnostic tests on network infrastructure
* Use standard troubleshooting procedures to identify, isolate, and correct problems
* Provide notifications and escalation for high priority or highly visible problems
* Work with help desk staff, network engineering staff, and third party service organization to trouble shoot and repair network problems
* Performs other duties as assigned
Essential Functions
- Reviewing on-site installation work
- Attending project coordination meetings
- Scoping or descoping design plans
- Installation and maintenance
- Managing Cable Records and equipment inventory
- Bachelors Degree or 10 years of experience installing,
managing, and energizing low voltage communications systems in a
campus environment
- 5-10 years working in a campus environment installing,
managing, and energizing low voltage communication cable
systems.
- 5-10 years working experience adhering to ANSI/TIA/EIA-569-A
Commercial Building Standards for Telecommunications Pathways and
Spaces.
- 5 years experience inspecting and overseeing contractor
installation work.
- Detailed knowledge electrical codes and standards for
residential or commercial communications cabling.
- In addition to these required skills, the qualified candidate
must be highly motivated, extremely customer service oriented and
able to communicate effectively with community members possessing
varying levels of technical skills.
- Travel between multiple campus locations is required.
- While performing job responsibilities it is regularly necessary
to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects,
tools or other components; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel,
crouch, or crawl; climb stairs, lift, push and pull 75
pounds.
- Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule necessary to
accommodate system maintenance and installations outside of regular
working hours.
- Certifications in Comp TIA A++ or equivalent preferred
- University City.
