Assistant Professor of Public Administration

Job Summary

The position requires teaching core public administration courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, through different modalities, including face-to-face and online. The ideal candidate will be able offer research and methodology courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Since our program maintains NASPAA accreditation, qualified applicants should have a clear interest and ability to contribute to academic program administration and accreditation processes. A doctoral degree in public affairs, public administration, or a related field by the date of appointment is required.  All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey. Candidates will also be expected to maintain an active research agenda and engage in departmental and university service.

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing - 50
Teaching Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in the discipline and contribute to the core curriculum as defined in the position description
  • Mentor students

Faculty - Professional Development - 25
Faculty are expected to conduct research and develop within the profession. The following represents some research and professional development possibilities:

  • Publications in refereed journals
  • Presentations at professional meetings
  • Grant applications
  • Membership and participation in professional organizations

Faculty - Service - 25
Examples include the following:

  • Department, college, and university committee memberships and offices
  • Programs directed and advised
  • Participation in special programs or projects
  • Consulting work
  • Service to the profession
  • Membership and participation in community organizations
  • Other significant services to the institution and community

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Applicants must have a doctoral degree in public administration or a closely related field by the date of appointment, but we will consider exceptional candidates who are ABD (must complete Ph.D. within the first year of appointment). Candidates should have demonstrated evidence of research publications, and the potential for program development and grant writing ability, with clear leadership potential in each of these areas being an asset.

Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 ( (faculty credentials))

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Experience
Hiring preference will be given to faculty who demonstrate an understanding of Georgia College's mission and who are enthusiastic about working closely with high-achieving students within an academic community dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through learning and scholarship. Prior teaching experience at the University level is expected.
