DEPARTMENT: Hospitality, Culinary Arts, And Dietetics

REPORTS TO: Chairperson, Hospitality, Culinary Arts And Dietetics

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Requisitions, stores, and issues supplies and equipment to students and maintains inventory control.
  2. Posts schedule of lab hours and maintains records of student utilization of lab as required.
  3. Prepares food lab prior to each lab session based on the requests of faculty and is responsible for security of the lab.
  4. Assists faculty during scheduled lab sessions in ensuring safe conditions for students through proper technique in use of tools and equipment.
  5. Coordinates services for non-working equipment, in consultation with HCD Chairperson.
  6. Orients, trains, and supervises HCD Lab Coordinator in standard operating priorities and coordinates activities for individuals assigned to food lab, including additional lab coordinators and work-study students.
  7. Maintains and secures food lab, storeroom, equipment, and supplies.
  8. Maintains up-to-date records of all food lab transactions with all vendors.
  9. Maintains accurate files and records as required.
  10. Prepares bid specifications for equipment and materials as directed by HCD Chairperson.
  11. Checks new equipment and supplies against bid specifications for compliance and acceptability. Coordinates installation of new or replacement equipment with Facilities Management.
  12. Maintains safe and sanitary standards within the food lab areas in accordance with applicable New Jersey Chapter 24 – Sanitation in Retail Food Establishments.
  13. Provides current cost and food product information to students, as required for specific lab sessions.
  14. Purchases, transports, and delivers food supplies from vendors to College, when HCD Lab Coordinator is unavailable.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.


MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate Degree in food service, culinary arts, business, or a closely related field
  • Three years of verifiable work experience in a fast-paced commercial food-service environment
  • ServSafe® certification
  • Experience in computer applications
  • Ability to lift 25 to 60 pounds frequently
  • Ability to interact professionally with employees, students, and the public
  • Ability to plan and perform a wide variety of duties requiring independent judgement
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience working directly with students in a food preparation area
  • Successful completion of related courses in hospitality management and/or culinary arts


SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:


SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
