Job Summary:

The Research Specialist will be a member of the PROTEA research team in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. This position will work directly with study team members and research subjects in trials led by Drs. Randy Brown and Christopher Nicholas. Current projects include human subjects research involving patients with diagnoses such as opioid use disorder, major depressive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. These clinical trials are both industry-sponsored and Investigator-initiated. Our team is currently involved with three complex protocols and are looking to begin two more clinical trials of equal complexity. Some projects may involve the use of novel, investigational treatments and current work includes supervised administration of MDMA and psilocybin.

The Research Specialist will primarily be responsible for scheduling and conducting study visits, data collection, and follow up with study participants for one of our clinical trials. The Research Specialists on our team communicate with sponsors regularly to ensure complete data entry, collaborate closely with regulatory personnel to ensure compliance of clinical trials, and work as a unit with clinical research staff and other professionals to ensure participant safety, study compliance, and overall ease of following protocols. They must have a strong understanding of working with vulnerable populations, research protocols, and effective communication skills.

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Degree in Biology, Psychology, Social Work or Sociology is preferred.

Qualifications:

Required:
- Minimum one year experience in human subjects research, health services, and/or clinical trials is required.
- Knowledge base relevant to mental health, addictions, substance use disorders, and/or related focus is required.
- Knowledge base relevant to vulnerable populations is required.
- Experience with data entry and use of data bases required.
- Knowledge of research confidentiality/privacy issues required.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with research participants and team members required.
- Ability to adapt to different work environments (office, clinic, hospital) and ability to work independently in virtual formats required.
- Ability to effectively work independently and collaborate with team members while following team and research protocol and procedures required.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at any given time and related experience in doing so required.
- Experience with and demonstrated ability to read, understand, and follow a strict and specific scientific protocol required..
- Problem-solving skills required.

Preferred:
- Current knowledge and/or experience of UW regulations and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of computer fundamentals, including Microsoft Office suite.
- Self-motivated, goal-orientated with excellent organizational skills.

Additional Information:

Effective January 1, 2020, the U.S. Department of Labor Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be updated to require that positions earning less than $35,568 annually be considered non-exempt under FLSA provisions for overtime (see https://www.dol.gov/whd/overtime2019/ ). Based on these rules, if the person selected for this recruitment will earn less than the new salary threshold at January 1, 2020 ($35,568 annually), he/she will be an academic staff non-exempt employee, will be paid hourly, and will receive overtime compensation for any hours worked over 40 in a workweek.

The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring eligibility for employment in the United States on or before the effective date of the appointment. University sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel is required. Must provide own transportation or a valid driver's license and eligibility for Car Fleet usage is necessary.
