Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Department of Visual Art and History of Art at Wheaton College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning in the fall of 2022. We seek a dynamic, inspiring teacher and artist with recognized professional achievement. We are especially interested in candidates with artistic practices grounded in painting that extend into the realms of public and/or social practice art through modes such as community projects; murals and graffiti; performance; etc.

This faculty member will contribute to a dynamic visual art curriculum dedicated to antiracism, innovation, and interdisciplinarity in a liberal arts context. The ideal candidate has an understanding of contemporary painting practices and theory and possesses the competencies to teach foundational through advanced courses in painting and drawing as well as courses in their area of expertise. The faculty member will also teach thematic First Year Experience courses and senior capstone courses on rotation with other Visual Art faculty.

We are seeking an energetic and collegial colleague who is passionate about teaching art to liberal arts students and nurturing a vibrant studio culture within our program.
