Summary/Objective

Develops and implements training, learning, and development programs, assessments, communication and organizational change interventions and activities in support of AU’s Inclusive Excellence Plan.
The consultant works in collaboration with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Office of Equity and Title IX, and leadership and staff across departments and schools to identify key areas for organizational improvement to achieve the DEI goals from the Inclusive Excellence plan in the workplace. The consultant will implement training, project plans, and communications to address identified areas of improvement to DEI programs and related processes. The role meets regularly with department heads, deans, and staff to provide guidance, provide training, and collect feedback to continually propose and implement changes to our everyday approach to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. Additionally, the consultant may support additional projects related to the Talent Strategies team goals and AU Strategic Plan.

Essential Functions
  1. Uses subject matter expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion to design training programs, collaborating with the Talent Strategies team, that advance DEI and address gaps in staff knowledge and skill in creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace relevant to the Inclusive Excellence plan. Works with Talent Strategies team to execute these programs with excellence, attending to quality, timeliness, and budgetary needs. Develops metrics to measure program effectiveness, training effectiveness, and incorporates into programs.
  2. Consults with AU teams, supervisors, and staff on DEI skills or knowledge gaps and uses subject matter expertise to design and implement OD interventions to address these gaps. Consults with departments, DEI partners, Employee Relations, and others on workplace issues related to DEI and provides guidance to create a more inclusive and equitable workplace.
  3. Collaborates with campus DEI leadership to identify DEI workplace metrics that will provide insights to help us create a better workplace experience. Tracks and reports against metrics, utilizing data to find key insights to improve programs and services.
  4. Coordinates staff and faculty affinity programming, including scheduling and organizing events, creating spaces for difficult conversations, coordinating affinity group leadership meetings, and ensuring that HR Leadership attends on a regular basis. Serves as an information touchpoint - providing feedback from the groups to HR Leadership as issues and comments arise, communicating to the groups about University and HR initiatives, and representing Affinity Group views as an advocate when group members are not present. Manages Affinity Group budget. Works with HR Communications and others to help promote Affinity Group events and programs. Liaises with other affinity programs such as campus partners, alumni, and student groups.
  5. Works with the Talent Strategies team to communicate about programs and services offered. May draft content and/or put approved content in the CMS.
  6. Other duties as assigned. May assist with the IDI assessment process, helping to coordinates campus facilitators, and consulting with individuals and groups on development plans.

Required Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant field including women or gender studies, intercultural communication, sociology, anthropology, or other relevant field.
  • Certificate in DEI from an accredited organization.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience includes work designing, delivering training and/or work team interventions to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Up to date knowledge of anti-racist, LGBTQ+, and accessibility advocacy practices.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience working in higher education is preferred.
