The Department of Latina/Latino Studies at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applications for two Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Associates. These are one-year appointments with a start date of August 16, 2022. The associates are expected to be in residence for the duration of the appointment (August 2022–May 2023). They are also expected to give a presentation on their research project and to teach one of the department’s regularly offered undergraduate courses. The associates will be housed in the Department of Latina/Latino Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences,but will also be provided opportunities to build a supportive on-campus community with the associates from African American Studies, American Indian Studies, Asian American Studies, and Gender and Women’s Studies.

Qualifications

The candidate must have attained a Ph.D. after August 15, 2017. Individuals working toward a Ph.D. will be considered, but the dissertation must be defended and deposited prior to August 16, 2022. The primary focus of the successful candidates’ research must be U.S. Latinas/os/xs, broadly constructed. We seek postdoctoral students who advance the necessary work of feminist, anti-racist, transnational, postcolonial, and decolonial theoretical perspectives. Approaches to scholarship may include, but are not limited to, Afro-Latinidades, Afro-Indigenous studies, trans studies, and relational ethnic studies with additional interests in queer of color critique, disability studies, and social and environmental justice. Creative research from all disciplines and interdisciplines are eligible and will be considered.

We also welcome and encourage applicants who have had non-traditional pathways to academia, including taking time off to care for loved ones, single parenting / guardianship, and individuals who have excelled in the arts, community organizing and advocacy, or professional service.

These are external appointments. Current University of Illinois faculty members and graduate students at the Urbana-Champaign campus are not eligible to apply. Scholars who received their Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are also not eligible for these appointments.

Salary and Appointment Information

$47,500 salary over a 12-month period. Additional $5,000 for research expenses. Comprehensive benefits package.
