Assistant Professor in Adult, Professional Higher Education

Position Description: The Department of Counseling, Administration, Supervision, and Adult Learning (CASAL) at Cleveland State University is seeking an innovative scholar, committed teacher, and collaborative colleague to join a nationally recognized graduate program as a Tenure Track Faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Adult, Professional and Higher Education Program, starting   August 22,  2022. The successful candidate should be a collaborative colleague who is invested in developing and strengthening of the masters and doctoral programs. In addition, the candidate will teach master’s and doctoral level courses to a diverse student population. Since many of our classes are taught online, the candidate will show a commitment to developing robust and engaging online classes. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to engage in service at the program, department, and college level.  The candidate will also establish and maintain a productive research agenda while working closely with our graduate students and faculty.

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to: contributing to and teaching in the master’s and doctoral programs, conducting an active research program, developing curricula, advising graduate students, chairing dissertations, assessing learning outcomes, and serving the program, department, university, community, and profession. Although this is a nine-month position, opportunities for summer teaching are typically available. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate prior to July 1, 2022 or ABD nearing completion in Adult Education, Organizational Leadership, Development, or Change, Human Resources Development, Higher Education Administration, or a related field;
  • Documented experience in the design, implementation, and instruction of in-person and online courses;
  • Documented experience working with diverse student populations; and
  • Evidence of a research agenda in one of the following fields or a related field: Adult Education, Organizational Leadership, Development, or Change, Human Resources Development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and experience in successful teaching of adult learners;
  • Successful teaching at the graduate level;
  • Knowledge of and strong interest in designing, implementing, and instructing and online courses;
  • Ability and commitment to work collaboratively in group settings;
  • Ability to work effectively in challenging team situations;
  • Expressed value in and commitment to integrate principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in course design and delivery at the graduate level;
  • Evidence of scholarly activity which includes peer-reviewed publications and presentations focused on an area of expertise including Adult Education, Organizational Leadership, Development, or Change, Human Resources Development;
  • Commitment to the doctoral program by advising doctoral students, serving on and chairing dissertations, and teaching doctoral courses; and
  • Developing courses in areas of specialization, such as leadership, quantitative and qualitative methodologies, organizational development, diversity, equity and inclusion, human resources development, or a related area.
