Job Summary

The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering is accepting applications for a Specialist, Communications positions at level I, II, or III, depending on the candidate’s combination of education and experience. This position is responsible for creating communications, marketing and promotional material delivered through various mediums for the National Center for Asphalt Technology .

Essential Functions
  • Writing and editing content for the National Center for Asphalt Technology’s website and other affiliated websites; brochures and reports; and newsletters, news releases and features for both traditional and social media outlets; letters; nominations; video scripts and more.
  • The ability to work with engineering faculty and staff to present their research fluently to a wide audience is a strong consideration, as well as the ability to present the NCAT in an engaging and innovative manner to its various constituencies stakeholders.
  • The candidate is expected to build and maintain relationships with journalists, develop story pitches for print, online, radio and broadcast news media, and assist with media visits to campus.
  • Strong consideration will be placed on those who also have experience with the creation and management of internal and external marketing campaigns across print and digital platforms

Level I requires a Bachelor’s degree in a discipline appropriate to position with no experience.
Level II requires a Bachelor’s degree in a discipline appropriate to position plus 2 years of experience.
Level III requires a Bachelor’s degree in a discipline appropriate to the position plus 4 years of experience.

Minimum Skills and Abilities
  • Experience in marketing and communications services to include print journalism.
  • Excellent communication, collaborative, and interpersonal skills are essential. ’
  • The candidate is expected to be fluent in AP Style for both digital and print platforms, from the generation of content to the coordination of layout and production with graphic artists and web designers.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working in higher education; proficient in AP Style, writing and editing of news, feature, technical, web and advertising content; project management of a variety of print, web, marketing and social media projects; proven ability to work with others. A desired candidate will demonstrate a willingness to stay on top of the latest technologies and build on existing skills. Some photography experience is helpful. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe CC software or similar is desired. Familiarity with Salesforce/Marketing Cloud is a plus. Experience with requirements of section 508 of the United States Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973
