Established in 2004 as the fourth college in the Los Rios Community College District, Folsom Lake College ( FLC ) is a vibrant teaching and learning institution serving over 8,800 ethnically and racially diverse students each semester. The College and its two educational centers, the El Dorado Center in Placerville ( EDC ) and the Rancho Cordova Center ( RCC ), serve the rapidly growing areas of both eastern Sacramento and western El Dorado counties, forming a dynamic learning community committed to academic excellence, innovation, and educational equity.

The main Folsom campus provides educational environments designed to empower, inspire, and enrich our diverse student population, including students from historically underrepresented and underserved populations. Our College awards Associate in Arts or Science degrees, as well as Associate Degrees for Transfer, which guarantee transfer into California State Universities and numerous private and non-profit four-year colleges and universities. We also offer Career Education (CE) certificates and degrees and transfer credit for students who wish to continue their education at a four-year college or university.

Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Dean of the Prison and Reentry Education Program ( PREP ), the Prison and Reentry Education Program Director will support district processes that prepares incarcerated and reentry students for degree completion and employment upon release. The PREP Director will facilitate collaboration among the Los Rios colleges and prison personnel to increase the number of CTE courses and programs offered to inmates and incarcerated youth. The PREP Director will work with CTE leadership at American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake, and Sacramento City Colleges, and interface with California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Sacramento Sheriff’s Department, Sacramento Probation Department. Such facilities may include Folsom Men’s Facility, Folsom Women’s Facility, Mule Creek State Prison, and Sacramento Sheriff’s County Jail, and Sacramento County Probation Youth Detention Facility. The PREP Director will also support the ongoing work of re-entry programs at each college campus integrating existing wrap-around student services. This position is supported by Strong Workforce Program funding. The position requires additional background clearances to gain entry into facilities/settings.

Assignment Responsibilities
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Collaborating with colleges’ Career and Technical Education ( CTE ) Leadership representatives, instructional deans and department chairs to implement programs geared toward improving incarcerated and re-entry students’ ability to find employment upon release.
  • Supporting college staff to manage student enrollments.
  • Working with the Dean of PREP and area instructional deans to recruit faculty for instruction.
  • Working with colleges’ student services professionals to identify and provide wrap-around services to incarcerated students.
  • Assisting institutions in recruitment of students.
  • Partnering with designated prison staff to provide services to students.
  • Collaborating regularly with designated prison staff and instructors.
  • Organizing meetings for faculty, instructional deans, and related college personnel with prison staff.
  • Supporting reentry efforts in-facility.
  • Supporting the Reemerging Scholars/Rising Scholars re-entry programs for each college campus, integrating existing wrap-around student services, and outreach.
  • Coordinate districtwide effort to enhance reentry support and data collection processes.
  • Working with colleges’ career counseling and transfer programs to enhance career pathways for formerly incarcerated students.
  • Representing PREP in regional and statewide network meetings.
  • Supporting community outreach and funding opportunities.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

1. Have a master’s degree. All degrees must be from an accredited institution completed by January 15, 2022..

2. Have one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.

3. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
