    Department Summary
    This job exists in the Department of Geography, an academic instructional department at the University of Oregon with significant research activities in various types of geographic study. There are approximately 30 faculty & staff members, 50 graduates, 150 undergraduates, 20 student workers, 5 Post-Doctorates, and 5 Emeriti.
    Position Summary
    The Office Coordinator is the department's main receptionist and the primary contact for the general public, students, graduate employees, and faculty. This position will perform reception duties including answering general office phone and email inquiries, while providing support for general office operations, accounts payable, payroll, purchasing, travel reimbursement, and special projects as needed. The Office Coordinator will provide administrative support for the department manager and faculty, and works closely with the Undergraduate Advisor to schedule classes and classrooms throughout the year.

    The Office Coordinator serves as Graduate Coordinator, and as such is responsible for all steps involved with the process from application inquiry through graduation for each graduate student. This position works closely with graduate students and assists the Director of Graduate Studies, Graduate School, and other related personnel in the advancement from declaration through graduation.

    This position will oversee and recommend the hiring of student workers.
    Minimum Requirements
  • Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents;
  • An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology;
  • Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.

    College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word, and the ability to quickly learn specialized software.
  • Experience in a college or university setting.
  • Experience planning and/or coordinating special events.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and communication skills and the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
