Position Summary:
Responsible for the performance of manual and semi-skilled work related to the maintenance of buildings. Repairs are generally of limited difficulty and involve the application of skills at less than the journeyman level, but also may involve work at times related to journeyman level. This is the first level of a two-level series. At this level, employees are performing tasks under the guidance of a skilled tradesperson or supervisor. As employees in this class increase their proficiency, they may perform routine, minor repairs and other tasks independently.

JOB DESCRIPTION
- Practices and encourages Facilities workplace
expectations.
- Makes miscellaneous minor repairs and adjustments to various
building elements, furnishings, and equipment as
directed.
- Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Event setups, breakdowns and classroom configuration
- Painting, general repairs, basic carpentry and
construction
- Cleaning, graffiti abatement
- Basic plumbing
- Shipping and receiving, pick-up and delivery
services
- Maintaining the mail room
- Maintaining safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and
first aid kits,
- Grounds keeping
- Performs preventative maintenance tasks such as changing
filters, cleaning and lubrication of operating equipment, belt
changing and alignment.
- Operates and makes simple repairs to power tools related to the
trade.
- Performs minor roof patching and repair.
- Assists other team members as needed.
- Organize and update computerized logs
- Climb ladders and work in confined spaces
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Subject to after-hours call backs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Any combination of education, experience and training that
provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform
the duties of this position. High school diploma or GED
desired.
- Basic computer skills such as typing, email, ability to fill
out service request forms online required. Microsoft Excel and Word
proficiency desired.
- Knowledge and training in the safety hazards and precautions
associated with this position and other building maintenance
functions.
- Must have knowledge of and be able to use the appropriate PPE
(Personal protective equipment) as needed.
- Must have the ability to effectively interact with a variety of
people in a manner that emphasizes strong customer service and
portrays the University's programs, personnel and philosophies in a
positive manner.
- Must have the ability to work independently as well as
establish and maintain harmonious relations with other staff,
faculty and students.
- Ability to routinely and safely lift/push/pull up to 50
pounds.
Typical Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Involves exposure to adverse environmental conditions as may be found working in a facilities setting which may include but is not limited to; working outdoors in inclement weather, extreme temperatures, noise, dim lighting, dust, dirt, confined spaces, high elevations, bio-hazards and other hazardous materials.
Salary: $18.23 per hour
