Position Summary:

he Director of Advanced Manufacturing Technology performs a full range of responsibilities at Housatonic Community College. The position’s role includes program needs assessment, development, marketing, program accreditation and administrative oversight of classroom and clinical instruction. The Program Director may also be responsible for teaching up to two courses within the program.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration or Manufacturing with two (2) or more years of experience in a related field with one (1) or more years of experience in the supervision of others; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:
  • Experience in academic curriculum and course design
  • Experience in utilizing assessment and evaluation techniques in academic program effectiveness
  • Knowledge of accreditation procedures and strategies
  • Experience supervising employees
  • Experience developing and managing operating budgets and plans

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) or more years’ experience working with College or Vocational technical students
  • Three (3) or more years' experience with preparing and managing budgets
  • Experience collaborating with department chairs and faculty members
  • Experience working with Industry Partners
  • Training or certification in NIMS, OSHA and Six Sigma Lean Manufacturing
  • One (1) or more years of professional manufacturing experience
Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of Department Chair or other administrator. The Director of Advanced Manufacturing Technology is accountable for development and delivery of degree and certificate programs meeting the instructional goals of the College through effective performance in these essential functional areas: Program development and accreditation; Faculty selection and professional development; Instructional quality; Administration and resource management and Budget and fiscal management.

Additional responsibilities include: ensuring manufacturing courses are meeting the needs of industry and are consistent with the College’s instructional goals and mission: ensuring safe and technologically up-to-date operation of HCC’s manufacturing equipment through appropriate training, contracts and licensing; supporting the manufacturing community; continuing the development of an Advisory Committee and related industry activities; supporting the Outreach Coordinator and Recruitment and Retention Coordinator as needed; engaging with external agencies such as: The Department of Labor, the College of Technology, the American Manufacturing Hall of Fame, and Manufacture CT; recruiting and overseeing the selection of faculty, instructors and staff appropriately qualified to instruct and support manufacturing and industrial technology program courses; measuring and evaluating program results and taking action to correct deficiencies; provide appropriate opportunities of their professional development; carry out the mission of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center.

In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

Starting Salary:

$73,292 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. Salary Range for this level is $ 73,292- $133,061.
